A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Free Republics Finest Pray For America
Our Country suffered a devastating blow this week with Hurricaine Katrina. It is so hard to watch the pain and suffering from our citizens. BUT
.WE WILL PREVAIL because we are a society that lends a helping hand. Please stop here and share your thoughts and prayers.
We are heartened by all the threads offering support
Many of us are personally involved with local relief efforts
Some come from small communities who have deployed two to three trained disaster volunteers. Larger communities send more. The bottom line is....WE ARE here for our fellow countrym men and women.
The same thing is happening all around the United States. We are just of a few small communities but you add them up and thousands are helping set up shelters all around the country, providing food, water shelter, comfort and support. This is the United States at its best.
We now offer prayers for all the victims of this terrible disaster and GOD BLESS THE USA!!!!!!
Isaiah 33:2 -- O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.
James 5:15b -- The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

Mornin'/Afternoon to FR's Finest.
In the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, we sometimes become detached from the reality of events taking place outside our own comfort zones. We look on from afar and without full knowledge of what is actually going on, we sometimes become judgmental and semi-concerned.
That was my situation prior to actually sitting down and watching the chaos created by Katrina on TV and reading the multiple reports on FR well into the early morning hours.
As was shared yesterday, we were away for a long weekend, catching only glimpses of the news. Opinions were formed based on incomplete information that ample warning had been given for the residents of the Greater New Orleans area to evacuate yet they chose to stay. While this may indeed be true in some cases, it also is a fact that multitudes had neither the way nor the means to evacuate.
As I watched our local newscast last night, a report was filed that a C-5 Air Force plane had been loaded with supplies, emergency equipment (paramedic vehicles, search and rescue vehicles etc.) and emergency personnel from the surrounding area emergency response teams. They left at 4 pm for an undisclosed Gulf Coast location to assist the emergency response teams already in place.
As I became more informed, I was force to my knees in prayer. First, seeking forgiveness for my semi-caring attitude and then to lift up all the people with real needs, real pain and loss with the comfort that only He can provide.
I ask forgiveness from one and all here for any indifference I may have shown.

Thanks for the link to Salvation Army's website. Was needing the address and just sent them a check.

What a truly beautiful and touching post, Dave. I understand what you are saying too well. Too often I have come to realize that I've been quick to judge without having all the facts. But, we are human, after all, and God is still working on us. :-)

Thanks for your support of the Salvation Army.
My wife and I watched Fox News for a few minutes this morning, and I told her, that I had to send the Salvation Army some money stat. So I found the site and when it finally came up (a lot of people donating), we donated.
It will not be the last time.

If you said anything out of line I missed it. There have been so many times that I've posted something in the heat of the moment and later regretted, am slowly learning not to be so quick on the trigger.
You're a good man Dave, no question about it.

Prayers for the Victims of Katrina....
Dear Lord...Please embrace in your arms those who have perished.
Please offer comfort and strength for those who have lost their homes and earthly posessions.
Please offer comfort and strength for those who have lost loved ones.
Please offer comfort and strength for our military men and women defending our country overseas who must be struggling to stay strong, worried about their loved ones.
Please offer comfort and strength for all the rescue and relief workers and volunteers as they work tirelessly to deal with this tragic situation.
Please offer comfort and strength to our leaders as they deal with this crisis.
And Lord...please pray for our President and we thank you that we have someone of his faith and integrity to lead us at this time of crisis.
For this we pray.....Amen

Hushpuppie, I couldn't get your link to the Humane Society to work, so I am posting it again...
The Humane Society Disaster Relief Fund
Here is a message from their donation page. If anyone has a few dollars they can donate, it will be put to good use.....
In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, The HSUS has begun a massive relief effort to rescue animals and assist their caregivers in the disaster areas. Our highly trained Disaster Animal Response Teams are moving into Mississippi to begin a multi-state animal rescue and recovery effort. Our 38-foot Disaster Response Unit, along with other rescue vehicles affiliated with our teams, are fully stocked and on their way.
Our entire relief effort is funded by donations from people like you, and we desperately need your support. Please make an emergency contribution to our Disaster Relief Fund today! Your tax-deductible gift will be used exclusively for our disaster animal relief work.

Dave, thanks for your post. It is so very easy for all of us to be caught up in our own little world & just notice in passing all else. Not good but pretty much the norm rather than the exception.
I do think Movies (which I LOVE) do a part in the de-synthesizing. Prolly TV too, but I don't do TV. We see tragedy, problems so often, we become hardened, if you will, to the REAL things when they occur
Most of us are feeling a real helplessness here. guilt? maybe. twinges of the human logical of "they should have... " or " it is their fault, because...".. we have all been there I am sure.
Not good, but true.
Hang tight dear FRiend!
