A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Free Republics Finest Pray For America
Our Country suffered a devastating blow this week with Hurricaine Katrina. It is so hard to watch the pain and suffering from our citizens. BUT
.WE WILL PREVAIL because we are a society that lends a helping hand. Please stop here and share your thoughts and prayers.
We are heartened by all the threads offering support
Many of us are personally involved with local relief efforts
Some come from small communities who have deployed two to three trained disaster volunteers. Larger communities send more. The bottom line is....WE ARE here for our fellow countrym men and women.
The same thing is happening all around the United States. We are just of a few small communities but you add them up and thousands are helping set up shelters all around the country, providing food, water shelter, comfort and support. This is the United States at its best.
We now offer prayers for all the victims of this terrible disaster and GOD BLESS THE USA!!!!!!
Isaiah 33:2 -- O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.
James 5:15b -- The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

I thank you,Lord, for all those trying to help the victims of this mighty storm.
May all who mourn be comforted.
I pray for the success and safety of those who rescue and serve the victims.May the victims be taken to safety.
I humbly ask you Lord to give the engineers wisdom and capability to repair the levees in New Orleans.
I ask you, O Lord, to comfort and heal those who will be discovering the people whose lives were lost.
Comfort, strengthen and restore those who have lost so much, Father.
I thank you,Father, for the compassionate and generous hearts in this country.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray.

What thread got pulled, one of the Katrina threads?
To: DollyCali
Nightmares of Hugo. Hugo was also a Cat 4 but because of the barrier islands the damage wasn't as great.
Maybe this will wake people up to the fact that you can't build on the waterfront without severe consequences. The barrier islands are gradually being eroded because of over building and depletion of the natural sand barriers.

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers. 1 Peter 3:12
As a teacher with many years of experience in high school and college classrooms, I have observed many kinds of students. One in particular is what I call the "just me and the teacher" student. This pupil has a kind of one-on-one conversation with the teacheralmost as if no one else were in the class. The teacher's rhetorical questions, for instance, result in verbal answers from this studentoblivious to anyone else's reaction. While the class is filled with other pupils, this one seems to think it's "just me and the teacher."
As I watched one of these students recently and saw him command the teacher's attention, I thought, He's on to something. He has the focus we all need to have when we pray.
The thought that millions of other Christians are talking to God as we pray should never cause us to feel that we are less important. No, as we talk to our everywhere-present, all-knowing, all-powerful God, we can be confident that He is giving us His full attention. David said, "This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him" (Psalm 34:6). God directs single-minded attention toward our praise, our requests, and our concerns.
When you pray, to Him you are the only one. Dave Branon
So lift up your heart to the heavens;
There's a loving and kind Father there
Who offers releasecomfort and peace
In the silent communion of prayer. Anon.
Though millions are bending God's ear in prayer, He listens to each individually.

I thought things sounded bad yesterday morning but it seems we're only beginning to know how bad things really are. My heart breaks for the survivors and everyone trying to help them. Prayers being sent for them all.

I have just been reading some threads that are saying thousands have died.
Another where looters are trying to take over Childrens Hospital.
This is unbeleiveable. They did say that thousands could die, seems like they may have been right.
Mississippi seems to have gotten the worst of it, trucks picking up 30 dead at a time, I want to cry..
Devastating..........
I have to get to work.

I am watching all of this unfold from overseas, I am horrified and moved to tears by what I am seeing on the news.
I am trained in the medical response to mass casualty situations, but looking at what is going on just locks up my mind.
I fear that the best solution fro NO is just to get those living out and wait for the flood-waters to stabilize. I just don't know what else they can do. (but then I'm not an engineer)

Good morning all the Finest.
First, I want to thank you, dear LadyX, for reposting last night my earlier post to you about my parents' situation.
Thank you all for your prayers for us and all those affected by this. I know I can count on the Finest for their continued prayers and support.
Here is what I know which is not much. As I said in the previous post Mom and Dad, who are in their 80s, evac'd to Mom's sister's house in Texas so the are o.k. Mom and Dad's home is in Metairie(East Jefferson Parish) so I'm pretty sure their house is flooded. Even if by some reason it escaped the inundation Metairie is mostly under water and there is no telling when we could get in to asses damage and clean up. I spent most of yesterday on line checking out different N.O. bulletin boards trying to find out anything about their specific area. Most was hearsay, and none was good.
I'm so afraid this will be a blow from which my parents, at their age, will never recover.
Pray for us as we deal with the aftermath of this. Having never been through anything like this before, we don't know where to start. It's also difficult because they are so far from me now. I'd like to get them over here but don't know just how to accomplish that. It's a 'far piece' to drive with no motel rooms available anywhere in between.
I have other family who live in Kenner, River Ridge, and at the N.O. Baptist Seminary. They all got out before the storm and are also gathered at a lake home in Texas, not knowing how long their 'exile' will be.
I must get offline now so I can call Mom and Dad.
Thank you all so much for your prayers. Ya'll are the best.
Texagirl, I'm so glad your family members in West Jeff are o.k. Please keep us informed. Prayers lifted for them.

Good Morning Dolly:
60 years ago I was in the Army and we went on flood patrol south of St.Louis when the Mississippi breached its levies and WE thought THAT was really something, but it was nothing compared to this. NOW we have a recovery problem that stretches imagination and it will be interesting, as we review things in the future, how we handled this.

Good morning! I only slept about 2 hours. Too many terrible images in my mind I am afraid. Have you had much rain in Ontario? We have had 5-8 inches depending on reporting area. Thanks for stopping by & visiting with us.
