A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Free Republics Finest Pray For America
Our Country suffered a devastating blow this week with Hurricaine Katrina. It is so hard to watch the pain and suffering from our citizens. BUT
.WE WILL PREVAIL because we are a society that lends a helping hand. Please stop here and share your thoughts and prayers.
We are heartened by all the threads offering support
Many of us are personally involved with local relief efforts
Some come from small communities who have deployed two to three trained disaster volunteers. Larger communities send more. The bottom line is....WE ARE here for our fellow countrym men and women.
The same thing is happening all around the United States. We are just of a few small communities but you add them up and thousands are helping set up shelters all around the country, providing food, water shelter, comfort and support. This is the United States at its best.
We now offer prayers for all the victims of this terrible disaster and GOD BLESS THE USA!!!!!!
Isaiah 33:2 -- O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.
James 5:15b -- The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

Oh, I'm glad to hear that about Home Depot giving a million too. (We actually own a teensy weensy bit of their stock.) Hopefully lots of corporations will do their part before all is said and done.

Thank you, Dolly, for posting this thread where we can express our concern and prayers for the people effected by this awful disaster. Like everyone, I am watching the films in disbelief.
I know we are all praying and doing what we can in donating to the agencies that are on the scene with aid for the victims, but it just doesn't seem like enough. It is such a helpless feeling to have to just watch as the situation gets worse and worse and the need becomes greater and greater.

Yes LadyX well spoken and truly out of my ability to comprehend. We won't know for weeks perhaps months the full measure of this disaster, and there is not TIME now to even begin to assess. TIME now to save those stranded, and feed, house and treat their injuries. Much work required ahead and prayers for all involved.

Says emergency workers have seized the food and water and drinks from Sam's Club, Wal-Mart and other groceries for evacuees, but he said that is all gone. Says water supply is gone. More water expected, but its not there right now. Says evacuees are getting upset and harried.
11:32 A.M. - Director Walter Maestri: FEMA and national agencies not delivering the help nearly as fast as it is needed.
11:30 A.M. - Emergency Operations Director Walter Maestri: Evacuees from New Orleans and the east bank of Jefferson are flocking to the west bank, overwhelming the facilities.
10:58 A.M. - (AP) The New Orleans International Airport has reopened to allow humanitarian flights in and out, officials said Wednesday.
10:55 A.M. - (AP) The Dallas school district says it'll enroll in district schools the children of any Hurricane Katrina refugees that ask for it.
10:52 A.M. - (AP) Every branch of the U.S. military is involved in the rescue-and-relief mission following Hurricane Katrina. The U.S. Northern Command is coordinating search and rescue, medical help and supplies. "As our nation prays for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, please remember our men and women in the military who are worried about family members at home." Oh, thank you, Amy, for reminding us of this. I admit, I had not thought of what it must be like to be in the military, far from home, in a war zone and desperate for word about the safety of one's family.

Thanks SO MUCH for this thread. It's been so hard combing through threads for itty bits of info (amongst the chatter and downright nastiness). How I've wished for someone to consolidate the important things into a list just as you have done here!
Thanks all ya'll Finest for your thoughts and prayers.
Mom and Dad have decided to come here sometime next week. We are still taking things one (baby)step at a time.

We just donated $100 to the Salvation Army.
The link to donate with a credit card is below. Even with a DSL link, it takes a lot of time to get to the site:
http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/
Salvation Army Serving Storm Refugees
Feeding First Responders
The Salvation Army is currently providing services to storm victims and first responders in the Gulf Coast states.
A $100 donation to The Salvation Army will feed a family of four for two days, provide two cases of drinking water and one household clean-up kit, containing brooms, mops, buckets, and cleaning supplies.
Victims Needing Assistance:
> Please call 1-888-363-2769.
Connect with Loved Ones:
> SATERN - The Salvation Army's Team Emergency Radio Network has been activated. Click here to send a health and welfare request regarding family and friends you otherwise are unable to locate...
> If you receive an error page when asking for a 'health and welfare request,' please click 'refresh' until the page appears. We thank you for your patience!
How You Can Help:
1. Financial Donations:
Financial contributions are greatly needed, and provide The Salvation Army with the funds to purchase what storm victims need. They also allow The Salvation Army to assess the unique needs of individuals and families, as well as put money back into the economy of those communities affected by the disaster.

Will add Gulfcoast6 to my prayers.
I'm praying that drinking water gets to these poor people in NO soon. I saw an 80 year old man on TV this morning. He said he was trying to get to the Superdome because there is drinking water there.

A picture speaks volumes. A man (smiling) is slogging almost knee deep in brackish water floating his most precious posession in a plastic basket - a small sweet dog.

I know right now we're all concerned with helping the human victims of this disaster but if anyone has a few extra dollars I know there must be hundreds of animals that need our help too. I'm a big animal lover and it breaks my heart to think about what they are going thru too. The Humane Society sends rescue groups into areas like this to find abandoned pets and animals.

I was wondering which countries would come to our aid in our time of need. I have no doubt that England and Australia will also offer their assistance in the days to come.

Thanks so much for the information on the Salvation Army and the link to their site. Our donations go to them also - it has long been our charity of choice. History has shown that they do great humanitarian work wherever they are needed (and, unlike some, require no repayment for their assistance).

Thanks, Hushpuppie, for the Humane Society link. This is a good reminder. I support the Humane Society and will be sending an extra donation to help with this tragedy. In cases like this, human suffering and need must take precedence and be addressed first, of course, but my heart breaks for those who have had to abandon their pets.
