It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.

He's also an excellent writer.

In Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian it looks like not a single house is left standing. I read somewhere last night on FR that nothing was left standing at Pass Christian.

Want happens in 3rd world countries can affect us. What happens in "3rd world states" affects us too. From another thread:
Shell said its Mars platform, which can pump 15 percent of the U.S. Gulf's crude oil, was damaged by Katrina on Aug. 29. At least seven oil drilling rigs were adrift in the Gulf of Mexico yesterday and two companies said they couldn't find their rigs and platforms after Katrina plowed through the area. ``Almost all the refiners are now putting marketers on allocation east of the Rocky Mountains,'' said Dan Gilligan, president of the Petroleum Marketers Association of America. ``Some terminals in Ohio, Tennessee, Arkansas and South Carolina are completely out of product. It's just a very precarious situation we're in.''

That said, my earlier post regarding paying more for gas pales in comparison to what these poor people are going through.

FYI, Hewitt referred to My Favorite Headache's thread today as basically a kook thread.
Astonishing Exclusive From Mississippi BREAKING NEWS
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1473894/posts
According to Hugh Hewitt: Similarly, moderators at bulletin boards have to be careful to avoid allowing fear mongers to post junk without any sources whatsoever. There's enough dire news as it is. Rumors only add to the worry and fear of families that are out of communication.

I've no doubt that their focus on the unimportant at the expense of the important cost many lives. However, in the middle of the tragedy I can't help feeling like an armchair quarterback. I probably wouldn't even be doing it if the MSM hadn't already started trying to blame this natural disaster on the President.

This thread will be vindicated. Hugh will forget to mention that he was dead wrong.I agree, and I'm sorry that Hugh Hewitt decided to jump the gun. It's a horrible, sad state down there. The aerial images are what convinced me, as if there was really any doubt.

This story needs to be told as I have spoken to people in NY and NJ who tell me that they don't consider Mississippi and Louisiana to be a real part of the U.S., only major cities really deserve attention in situations like this.I can vouch for the mentality. I dated a girl from just outside NYC when I was in college low those many years ago. The one thing her entire family was agreed upon was she had gone to "the sticks" to go to school. IT WAS DELAWARE FOR PETE SAKE!
They seemed to think they lived near the summit of the mountain and everything rolled downhill as it got futher away from them.

From people like Shep Smith, some reporter babe from CNN and even the mayor of NO saying it will likely be in the thousands, I am sure they have a better idea than those of us who aren't there do.

I agree you can't just BLINDLY take someone's word from someone. I trust MFH from previous experience. And how many times have the MSM been on a cell phone with someone at a terrible scene (I'm recalling the tsunami) (much less a paramedic) that they treat as a credible witness?

I think the people would be more than willing. He has to ask.I disagree.
The beauty of this country is --- or was, prior to multiculturalism --- that it happened without having to ask.

It's like that in Chicago too. Though being in the Midwest, they have slightly more compassion.

Just got a call from a friend who's boss keeps up with the college in Thibodeaux (NSU). He was told it is closed & has been set up as a makeshift morgue. They will be bringing the dead from NO there to hold.
NOTE: I nor my friend know if this is indeed fact & would ask that if anyone has or could verify this information for us to please do so.
