The New Orleans police officer shot in the head by a looter Tuesday was expected to survive, officials said.
The officer, who has not been identified, was in surgery at West Jefferson Medical Center after being shot in the forehead, police said.

This is interesting since Lousiana's Attorney General was just on Hannity's show justifying the looters. He said these people are in need...and that most of the food was going to go bad, anyhow. When Hannity mentioned the clothes and electronics that were being stolen, he started to back down a little.
The news media are making a concerted effort to NOT show the looting. The looting is very bad, but they want to show helo rescues and happy stuff, not the looting.
This is no different than when they did not show the jumpers off the WTC towers.
Instead of reporting the news, they spin the news, and FOX is no different in this regard. They have the footage of the looting, but they are only showing token amounts of it.
White people rioted in LA too. Savagery knows no racial boundaries. Haley was on the news yesterday and made it clear that in MS, they would be ruthless toward looters. I heard no "Don't even think about it" -style message from Kathleen Blanco. It's too late for most of America to ignore the looting... and it may be too late for any re-election chances she may have (or may have had, depending on how you look at it).

If you look at the newspapers of the time, they also shot people trapped on top of burning buildings with no means of escape.
Oooh - 5/92 was when Korean store owners fired on looting/rioting blacks in Los Angeles. Don't know if that was a "pure" case of looting or whether anyone was killed or hit, but I definately saw news footage of them firing in their direction.
Nobody can turn a tragedy into a travesty like these armpits of the human race.

I'll bet if every person on this thread were to be stuck in one of these towns right now, with a handfull of kids, no refrigerator, no water to drink, 'looting' some food, water and medicine may not sound so immoral after all...
If my kids were hungry or sick, I would do 'whatever it takes' to make them comfortable...

Yeah, the "do anything to feed your kids" has been covered. What's your excuse for the looting electronics? The kids are now bored?
Maybe...but things would have to get pretty bad for me to have my children see me stealing something. And if the unimaginable happened I would confine my larceny to what was an absolute necessity to survive that leaves out jeans, TVs and DVDs etc.

there's plenty of white trash around to loot as well, maybe not in this area, but in other areas....
this is a horrific disaster, and we shouldn't be dreaming up ways to NOT help......
