The New Orleans police officer shot in the head by a looter Tuesday was expected to survive, officials said.
The officer, who has not been identified, was in surgery at West Jefferson Medical Center after being shot in the forehead, police said.

Where in the definition of "looter" does it imply "not local"? You're drawing a distinction I've never heard of before.

my only point is that you seem to blame the entire American black communtiy for the looters as if most blacks are that way....just like whites, there is a whole majority of black Americans who are law abiding and civilized......
the other thing is.....let's not make this a racial issue....the situation is as bad as it is by itself....

I starting to feel a little sick regarding the news of looting and all, come home after a long day I was trying to phone in to my wife to get updates on the news regarding the flooding and all, and speaking of sick, as strange as it sounds, I have an interest in epidemiology (i.e. the study of epidemic, plagues, disease, etc.) and have numerous books on the subject from a scientific and historical context, and I have to agree with some comments I have also now heard on FOX News regarding the situation on N.O. and elsewhere impacted with the flooding that this situation is just ripe for disease, including epidemic problems. We also have a situation where vectors of dangerous infection and fever, or virus, is there such as mosquito and West Nile (is W.N. a problem in LA?) or other, and of course with the dirty water there is cholera. This has potential of becoming a serious dilemma of national consequence both to human quality of life and economic. I guess I have to agree with Drudge from last Sunday, we see M-TV types who live in a sick world that fails to even see what is happening around them, even when a city of historical consequence such as New Orleans which I have visited five times and love is threatened, an old city and part of our culture and part of our treasures, which could have been lost, and of course now so many suffering in LA, Alabama, Mississippi, and if the left talks of it, it is only in context of junk science of global warming or to blame Bush and Iraq war as if we have a shortage of National Guardsmen domestically to the rescue. If this looting continues et all, this is going to be sad chapter, it won’t be just a footnote.
They really need to start wasting those SOBs. Really, almost anyone who stayed in NO..who was physically able to get out, was probably biding their time for this occasion. They risked their lives to swipe stuff.

As far as I'm concerned it's not covered. There was a three day warning for this storm. There is no excuse for not being prepared. Those that are stealing should be shot.
All I've seen her do is whine and moan... Her tears are not what are needed, in this devastating time. At the risk of sounding sexist (what the hey, I am sexist), she needs to put the apron back on, and let the men go to work!

Perhaps if you owned the store and people were stealing from you you might feel a bit different.
It may come as a surprise to you, but a lot of folks can't afford to 'get prepared'...A lot of these people undoubtedly don't own cars and have no place to go if they did...
It's the end of the month...People in my area don't get social security checks until right after the 1st of the month...Same with the food stamp program...Tons of people can't just get up and go when someone snaps their fingers...
