You're making us look like DU!

I'm glad you said that. Since the hurricane I have been disgusted with some of the posts on FR. Some FReepers (including many "oldtimers") have delighted in the peril of others, including a FReeper who wanted to continue to watch the FOX broadcast in the hopes of watching Shep Smith "buy it". Many were blasting the government and government officials with incompetence before there was any damage and others engaged in a war of words over silly, petty matters. I had to stop reading the continuing hurricane thread b/c there was so much hate being posted. What has happened to FR? Is this how good people respond when we have a disaster? I expect to be flamed for my post so I'm going into the other room to put on my asbestos suit now. *sigh*

No flames here. I agree. Some disgusting stuff. Whatever happened to "There but for the grace of God . . ."? I guess that only counts if you make the right decisions.

Exactly, at a time like this, there are no Republicans or Democrats, we are all in this together. We can play "Monday Morning Quarterback" later.

I agree with you for the most part. That said, the news conference today by the Governor and the Mayor on Sunday morning were horrible.

They need someone in charge and lack of people in charge is unfathomable.

WWL is reporting that the Mayor's Office said that in 12-15 hours the city will be under nine feet of water. That means they don't have much time to get people all out. They are now driving boats through neighborhoods with bullhorns to see if people are still alive in the houses and need rescued. I just saw a cute dog rescued.

People of this area need our prayers but I don't want anyone to forget the incompetence of a Mayor and Governor after this is all over. Don't let them get away with this travesty.

Another support for your post. There are too many Freepers who leave me with no answer to the jibe from the left - "Your side is whacko". Somehow, "yours is too" isn't satisfying.

I wonder if Fox will ask Jug Twitty for his opinion on the Hurricane. I also wonder if Fox will find some Pretty Young white girl who has been lost in the storm that we should emphasize above all others.

There are a lot of side stories to this hurricane disaster, and many FR members want to state what they believe are VERY important issues.

Example--I personally am outraged that we give so many BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars to foreign nations, yet we do not take care of our own nation, and other nations do not help us in our time of need.

Don't get too upset with posts from other members . There are many very legitimate issues to be raised about how we run our nation, how we prepare (or fail to prepare) our nation for potential disasters, and our priorities, as well as the global welfare binge our nation has been on.

Please do not stifle the opinion of others. There are crucial issues to be discussed, and there are only so many thousands of posts that can be made about "saying our prayers" for the people of New Orleans. If somebody wants to raise a side issue, that is what this forum is all about.

When people are overwhelmed, they sometimes throw caution to the wind.

----Many were blasting the government and government officials with incompetence before there was any damage and others engaged in a war of words over silly, petty matters. I had to stop reading the continuing hurricane thread b/c there was so much hate being posted.----

My favorites have been the Monday-morning meteorologists from Iowa, who've never been in one of these storms in their lives, that have decided a Category 4 hurricane was the fault of politicians, and that a disaster 300 years in the making can be directly assigned to whoever happens to be in office now.

I've hated KKKathleen Blanco from day one, but Hurricane Katrina is NOT her fault. Nor is it the fault of Ray Nagin, nor Mary Landrieu, nor any other Democrat politician we don't like. This is the mirror image of what we hear spewed from those DU numbnuts. When we start declaring that if people die in this then "Nagin will have blood on his hands", as has been stated elsewhere, we really do sound like DUmmies.

I'm also getting tired of Freepers bitching about the prospect of federal aid being sent to New Orleans because they don't want to be responsible for bailing out "irresponsible" people. THESE folks sound like Michael Moore right after the last election.

What has happened to FR? ....I expect to be flamed for my post so I'm going into the other room....

Wow! You answered your own question on so many levels!

Paraphrase: 'I'm going to get flamed, so I'm going to throw in a fire-bomb and walk away!'

LOL! ;-) It's not that bad, but still..

Look at your screen-name! What happens to a garden when it goes un-tended? Weeds sprout...and maybe you get TooManyGrasshoppers! Just ribbing you.

Anyway...if you are really interested, I think what has happened with FR is that it went from a presumption of "I've got a question I expect to discuss over several posts" to "I've got the correct viewpoint, I stated it in #2242323, and if you don't get it...."

I think if you care about the posters here, then you will try to convince them over time. If you don't care about a certain poster.....ignore them!

No flames here. I've noticed the same thing and I've been disgusted by it. I thought Freepers were better than that. I'm glad someone stepped up and said it.

I just ignore it (at least I try too).

THANK YOU. I'm in Baton Rouge right now, watching everything I own float away. My 85 year old aunt lost the house she's lived in since she was four years old, as well as family heirlooms that go back a hundred years or more. We will conceivably have nothing left, and will probably get pennies on the dollar from insurance. I've logged on to FR three or four times since Sunday, hoping to find some sort of solace in the reasonable posts usually made here, but haven't been able to read for more than about 15 minutes because I get so agitated.

Anyway, thank you, toomanygrasshoppers and all those with kind thoughts for us. I'm glad to know there are still some people around here that have a little humanity. To all of you others, STUFF IT. Think about what it's like to lose everything from wedding pictures to family silver to a change of clothes before making your smarmy comments.

Oh, and all you Nagin haters are clueless.
