Katrina Live Thread, Part XI
Various ^ | 30 August 2005 | Various

Posted on 08/30/2005 1:34:04 PM PDT by NautiNurse

The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

It's the welfare/"gangsta" "get back at the society that repressed us" "culture" that did this.

All of ya'll that are complaining about Shep doing this, and not doing that...and he shouldn't be reporting but showing where these people are...

IF Shep wasn't there...if he wasn't reporting, WE wouldn't know what was happening...THEN how would this thread go!

Wouldn't he get flamed for NOT going where the people are, and bringing us the REAL story? you bet he would be flamed.

Just like President Bush---yesterday I saw poster after poster complaining because Bush hadn't given a speech...so, today he has one scheduled at 5:00 EST., and what do I see? Posters complaining about the TIME of the speech!!!

jeez louise, people get a grip----President Bush is 1 (one) man, Shep is one man, and stuff IS getting done...

look at all of the people that the Coast Guard have saved, and the Governors of other states stepping up...

I never thought I would see on a conservative site, people complaining about things not being done by the government, like I have the last few days...

Also, I doubt that ANYONE that watches the video of Shep on that overpass, and CAN get there, has decided not to ---I think we all need to take a big, deep breath----and quit complaining about stuff like times of a speech, or whether Bush flew over instead of landing, or whatever!

maybe he confiscated them from a looter

Very good point. I shouldn't have assumed that he had taken them.

that was my first thought, he confiscated them from a looter.

On a side note anyone know what this means, is this good or bad news?

Soon to be EX-New Orleans police officer when his supervisors see this photo.

I wouldn't be so sure. The union will support his claim that was returning them to the shelves.

That's right. Shep could get these people help if he wanted to. But then there would not be a hot story.

BINGO !!

How did Shep get there to where those people are stranded on the highway? Did he get helicoptered into there? Did he drive there? Is he going to stay there until all those people find out where they should be going, or will he, when his shift is over, bug out to somewhere safe with electricity, a/c, water and food and come back to give more drama when his next TV performance time comes. If he was truly concerned, he'd quit emoting on the boob tube and use the resources he has to begin taking those people to safety. It's all about the ratings.

NO City or state official seems to be able to make even the SIMPLEST of moves without consulting with higher authorities, and from what I've seen in the last few days, "PASS-THE-BUCK-Itis" seems to be in full effect...

I didn't see the woman - the official I was talking about was a man - police, or community relations officer possibly? He was carrying a video camera and would not look at or talk to Shep. Shep was asking him where the people could go, was there anything that could be done for them. He just went back to his car, with Shep walking alongside him and asking numerous questions without getting a response. The man acted as if Shep wasn't even there.

I saw Shep talking to an off-camera State Police officer, female for sure. Similar in the lack of acknowledgement.

How sad.......sad. I spent the latter part of 1966 and half of 1967 at Keesler AFB. I didn't see the effects of Camille as I was in Vietnam at the time. I knew many great people in Biloxi. I've seen a lot of death but this exceeds what I've seen.
