The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Cruise ships was the suggestion. To actually house the people temporarily.

We suggested that, too. LOL Last night sometime. Decided too many were owned by cruise lines from other countries.

Realized today another reason why they wouldn't work even if we could get them. The looters would strip ANY ship bare.

Point out one item in my post that is not fact.

Cannot you read? I have no argument with facts. However, your unnecessary desire to choose the word "hysteria" was my gripe. You did not need to stoop to that level to try to make a point. Do you understand now that I told you twice?

If you think someone's idea may be wrong or not to your satisfaction you need not tell them that they are hysterical. Got it?

CNN interviewing airport official: Armstrong International Airport is now open and operational. Being used to fly in relief supplies, equipment, and personnel. No passenger and cargo service yet, but the airport is up. Airport is physically in good shape.

This is what I've found unbelievable through the whole thing.

There was no hurricane plan in place. If you knew the Super Dome might be your only "shelter" in a city that large, and you saw a hurricane approaching, don't you think you'd bring in portable toilets, and stock it with medical supplies before the hurricane approached.

The attitude was "We'll see what happens and then deal with it." That won't work in a city as vulnerable as NO. If folks are urged to keep supplies in their homes in case of hurricanes, shouldn't a city government, in a city with a situation as tenuous as NO, have had some plan to get people to and from the Super Dome if the levees broke.

I am just amazed at the lack of hurricane preparedness. But I'm in Florida and we did pretty darn good last year, thanks to Bush and our EOC's because they always took the threats seriously.

Not to say that things always happened fast...there are still people in Miami without power from Katrina, but there was never any looting (in fact in all 4 storms last year I don't remember any reports of looting), or sense of everything spiraling out of control, and that's the sense I'm hearing from the gov't officials there, they sound like they're shrugging their shoulders and saying, "What can we do?"

Gangs probably looting houses before people get back home, since WWL just gave the order that the St. Charles folks could come back if they so choose.

If CNN is asking serious questions then things are very very critical.

I've had a chance to watch the Salvation Army in action after disasters. They DO NOT charge for disaster supplies.

After a local flood, they were the only ones who came in with supplies. Everyone in the area was given gloves, rubber boots and a set of cleaning supplies. They also set up a canteen with free coffee and sandwiches.

As for the Red Cross...

9:48 A.M. - WWL-TV: St. Charles Parish residents may return to their homes to grab personal items before leaving the area.

Will the residents and gangs clash? Same area.

Jeez, lady reporter on air from Biloxi saying "listen to that" and you hear the sound of high pressure gas, almost drowning out her reporting and she says "that's natural gas." She is a Darwin award just waiting to happen. I'm surprised she didn't start the broadcast with "hold my beer and hear this."
