The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

One more day of this dithering and the President will have to step in and put someone in charge of the entire relief effort. I expect real martial law or some FEMA approximation by Thursday.

You're one of these FReepers who happen along and opine utter garbage, and hope and pray daily that President Bush mucks up or fails.

By turning key, and driving down I-10 to Super Bowl exit, loading up with people and heading to a shelter outside NO. They just have to do it.

Question is, is I-10 open west from the SuperDome?

National Guard is there now..I think just getting from one place to another is so difficult right now that expecting anyone to "step in" and stop the lawlessness is a bit optimistic.

There is something missing from this video which I'm sure authorities would be very interested in.........

Casualties.

Any images of floating bodies have been edited.

Eyewitness accounts say that the entire region is inundated with corpses.

INteresting...wonder how close in a cruise ship could come?

Some of the cruise liners now hole 5,000 or so...they could sustain life easily...with private toilets, kitchens made for huge crowds, etc. Interesting idea...living on a cruise liner while the temporary land housing is set up.

For sure...a lot of people not used to working are going to have rely on themselves, maybe for the first time in their lives.

I understand about fuel 'treatments' but forgive me if I place little faith in them. In my opinion it is simply better to have good fresh fuel than to trust some treatment to last some number of years.

I wonder if there were any cams left running on these hotel/casinos that captured this storm surge coming in.

If there were any working, I doubt the media the images were recorded on are in any condition to replay them.
