The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Maybe cause it has "dnc" in it?

True. At least all I need to do is wash my hands and splash some water in my eyes after that though.

Trapped, but not in immediate danger of drowning. That's a huge difference.

There's no water, no toilets, no food, no AC.........

It's becoming a death trap.

The mayor of NO just told Aaron Brown that they are expected to be stuck there (NO Supredome) for at least a week.

FEMA should have been flying them out to the tent city they are going to have to setup now anyway to house them.

Not good and bad news!

Stupid media should not have been there in the center of the hurricane if you ask me. They should have evacuated with everyone else.

The mayor is asked where the folks will be moved. He says that is a good question. He speculates maybe other parishes or Baton Rouge. He expects folks will remain in the superdome at least another week. The asylum is here. We are watching it. I am really disappointed in our government, local, state and federal. Very disappointed, and very angry.

Mayor Ray Nagin on CNN now. The bowl is now filling up with water. Like 911 FEMA will take over. Has gone from a local to a Federal issue.

http://www.freedomfiles.org/war/fema.htm

Believe military bases that have closed down are now FEMA controlled.

If the canals connect the lake to the river, and the river is much higher than the lake, then assume a lock is stuck open on the canal where the breach is. TROUBLE.

Sorry, but that's nonsense. Deaths probably 200 or so. 500-1000 tops, v. 3000 dead on 9/11. damage of 50-100 billion, v. estimates of up one trillion for 9/11. Wait and see.

Actually government disaster studies have cleared stated that a catastrophic complete levee failure within New Orleans due to a cat 4 or cat 5 hurricane would result in 20,000 to 30,000. Thats not even counting the worser hit areas to the north and east. Due to the economically depressed nature of many of these areas, we may never know how many were actually lost. Its probably best now to not even attempt a count. We need to save those we can and prevent the outbreak of diseases that could spread the carnage even further.

*** The poor were left behind. There was and is no plan to get them out of NO, either before or after the hurricane. I STILL have heard of no coherent plan. Incredible. They are desperate. ***

There is NO WAY they can blame this on Bush, FEMA or anything else...

And they will NOT stay in the DOME for more than a WEEK! IS this guy out of his mind??????

It's becoming GLARYINGLY clear that they had NO real plan for dealing with the worst case scenario, Hurricane or not..

People are starting to WALK OUT on their own!
