The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

If Max Mayfield tells you it's coming, IT'S COMING!!

Yup. I remember his appearances just before the storm, he was totally pessimistic, very dour. Now we know why.

"The crews were there as well as local people that man the airport it was stupid decision by the airlines"

Just how many people do you think the airlines could have "saved?" The airlines can't just take anyone and fly them anywhere and drop them off. They would have been responsible for people with reservations that day. And do you know how many that was? Surely not the tens of thousands who are in N.O. now.

CNN's Aaron Brown: The President has finally decided to pay attention to the situation.

The PRESIDENT has been dealing with this all day. Mr. Bush is just not a glory hound.

Any one out there know how Hattiesburg, Mississippi fared> Can't get a hold of a friend....thanks....

Only thing I know about Hattiesburg is they got 100-mph winds. I'd expect that power and phone lines are down all over the place.

I have to disagree. LSU did a study showing exactly what would happen if a major hurricane hit near New Orleans. Basically, what they predicted is occurring. The only major difference from their report and what is occuring is that they expected that New Orleans would have 72 hours to evacuate.

Never met you, but when I found out you were going to a shelter, Mr. Mabelkitty and I prayed you'd be okay.
Glad to hear it.

You think? I imagine come next election, New Orleans population will have surged. I'm sure only Republicans died in the hurricane... at least that's what the voter rolls will reflect in 2006/8.

I would think that Gulf Port or Biloxi could use you more right now. They are going to evacuate NO. I am sure that you could contact the Salvation Army or So Baptist Disaster Relief.
