Let's just wait and see when the rest of the world or that irrelavent body of the UN comes to America's assistance - or even who offers aid or relief..
We're more likely to find more help under the floodwaters of Katrina.

LA, like TX, has been been badmouthed for years about how polluted it is and what poor environmentalist they are.
Gasoline is in short supply or will be and it would deserve the bashers well if LA said screw your gas, we're taking care of our own first. No further exports to Blue States!

Considering how many people have been warning about this, why would we allow 8 refineries to be co-located and on top of this, in a port city that is BELOW the sea level. Gads, this could be like a tackler slapping the economy from a blind spot.
I'm hoping gas doesn't hit $3.50/gallon.

I've got friends in N.O. and am curious about if the neighborhood they live in was flooded.
Anybody know if there are any maps online outlining where the flooded sections are. Or, of course is EVERY neighborhood in NO flooded? If so, forgive stupid question.

Nearly 1/2 of all the gasoline in the country is refined here. <-----That's nothing but a BOLD FACE LIE!! We have PLENTY of refineries here in Texas (if BP can keep them from blowing up)

New Orleans really has gone from bad to worse. Somehow, all those people who stayed behind are going to have to be evacuated. The possibility of disease spreading through that city is just too great. And it will take weeks at the very least to cope with the problems created by the flood.

All these scenes of devastation remind me of last winter's tsunami.
I wonder if the "international community" is going to step up to the plate and return some of the generosity shown by Americans.
In fact, I hate to say it, but I'm wondering whether Americans will.

How could it be worse? The media is delighting in finding ways to turn this entire storm into an anti Bush extravaganza!

Sitting here in the comfort of my kitchen, it is easy to second guess the situ...but, why would an engineer recommend the construction of an oil refinery on a flood prone river plain....?

Major lumber mills have been destroyed, which is going to have a dramatic effect on new construction and the housing bubble.
We are doing an old-house rehab and the contractor told us he is buying all the lumber this weekend so that he can honor his original bid estimates. Yes, that means that we are having to pay the entirety of this now--but who knows where the cost will be within the next few weeks and months.

All these stories do is cause panic mode for the uninformed. I refuse to indulge in it.
