Not quite...according to http://news.ft.com/cms/s/182d0182-18c5-11da-8fe9-00000e2511c8.html, analysts estimated roughly 12 per cent of total US crude oil production and 10 per cent of US refining capacity had to be shut down - so your doomsday scenario is just as misplaced as you claim the media's rosy picture to be.

Last I heard NO has declared martial law. No wonder...saw some film of people looting, I think it was in Mississippi. And I'm sure before long there will be bogus "contractors" out to prey on the devastated, if they haven't already started.

Sad thing is that a devastating event like this brings out the bad as well as the good.

Also heard the death toll in just one part of Mississippi is now 80.

Actually, it sounds about as bad as I thought it was.

Far less deaths than the worst case scenario would have produced, but the death toll is going to rise considerably.

The economic impact is going to be severe for the nation, catastrophic for Louisianna.

Gas prices will rise further. New Orleans is flooding and will be under water for months.

Sh1t happens. Mother Nature's a bitch.

Remember on 9/11 the reporters refused to show the footage of the real carnage going on? Are they censoring the news again?

I agree the situation is bad, and New Orleans is most certainly a critical path city for the USA economy on both the oil producing, processing and shipping port fronts, but I believe the people of America and the folks in Louisiana are strong to the bone and will surprise all at how fast they come back. Just as the weak sisters who predicted Kuwait would burn for years from the oil well fires started by Saddam Hussein were dead wrong, so will the naysayers here be proven wrong.

However, the American people have now had their eyes opened as to the America they will buy into if Cindy Sheehan and her beloved Democrat Party vermin friends ever get to pull our troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. If that ever happens, it will only be a short time until the war of the the terrorists comes here via nuclear, bio or beheading events. Folks take a good hard look at the suffering occurring in our southeast, and multiply that by tenfold as the terrorists have a field day destroying America and her people. This current Democrat Party needs to be totally destroyed at the ballot box. If not, your destiny meeting with St. Peter is not far away, thanks to the Cindy Sheehan's and Democrat vermin of the world!!! Wake up!!!

This is just panic talk.

Demcrats are jumping up and down with JOY! Bad news is good news for the left.

The MSM is HAPPY about this oil scenario. CNN reporterette was positivly dejected when it was announced the Gulf of Mexico oil platforms were pretty much unharmed.

Bush should declare a national emergency and invoke emergency powers. State that exploration and drilling is to be done anywhere crude and natural gas is thought to be. That in the US, ten new, state of the art refineries are to be built and strategically located across America.

Drastic times call for bold and drastic measures. To all politicians, (Bush et al RINO's) lead on this issue, or get the hell out of the way.
