NEW ORLEANS. IT'S WORSE THAN YOU ARE HEARING!
WWL Television in New Orleans, LA ^ | Aug 29, 2005 | none

Posted on 08/30/2005 8:03:13 AM PDT by alligator

The attached is a video from WWL TV in New Orleans. The mayor of New Orleans gives a very detailed report of the condition of the city. As bad as the national news is painting the picture, it falls short of the devastation that has occurred.

There are 8 refineries located in the New Orleans to Mobile areas. Nearly 1/2 of all the gasoline in the country is refined here. These are all shut down, and they don't know for how long. Even if they were capable of running the refineries, there will be a huge shortage of workers as they have evacuated. All of Metarie, Slidell, Mandeville, Kenner, etc is under water and there is no place for them to come home to. Large oil super tankers will not be able to off load to the refineries even if they could run. The pipelines and transport facilities are all in jeopardy.

The New Orleans port and the Mississippi River structure carries nealy 1/4th of the entire countries goods and equipment. The export and import of goods will cease for a long period of time. Fill up your tanks, stock up your goods. Prices will be rising

The city just took a bath. That's all.

I have no doubt that the City and surrounding areas will recover. We just need to halt the foreign aid money going to our enemy's and redirect it to AMERICANS THAT NEED IT. WASHINGTON???? DO YOU HEAR???

That is it....

If you've never evac'd with someone in poor health or limited mobility or whatever...you don't have a clue.

If you've never loaded bus after bus after bus, hand carrying on non-ambulatory person after person, you don't have any idea how long it takes just to load one bus....

Or how physically exhausting it is.

What a good opportunity to highlight the need for more refining capacity.. Nuke Plants.. and shale oil conversion facilities.. not to speak of opening up THE REST OF ALASKA TO DRILLING... not just ANWR..

The odds of this opportunity being LOST by republicans IS GREAT.. having no backbone like they do.. or don't.. take yer pick..

I am ex oil field trash (smile when you say that) also. And since the 1980's, the petroleum infrastructure in the US has deteriorated beyond anything I could have thought imaginable.

The PC enviro Nazies have virtually destroyed the domestic exploration, drilling, production and refining industries.

The last refinery was built in 1979 at Garyville, LA by Marathon Oil Company (which I retired from)

I will not go into panic mode.

Neither will I.

sarc> Just like Y-2K, I will calmly, methodically buy ridiculous quantities of every commodity conceivably needed for the next ten years and hoard them.

Then, in a month or two, when things settle down, sell them at an enormous loss on eBay, and scream, "IT'S BUSH'S FAULT!" /sarc>

Wow, if things are so dire, I am sure our friends the Saudis will just up production.

And I am sure teams of supplies, money and help will be coming in anyday day now from the world community...

It's a little early to be hitting the bottle, eh?

Look at the good side.
No roads for the cars to travel on in these states. Therefore no need for gasoline in these states. Therefore there is more gasoline for the rest of the country. After the rain (water) there is always sunshine.
Beside George Bush did it.

So are you saying if Hilary was in NO yesterday???

The problem with the Mayor of New Orleans is that he is a Democrat vermin!!! No Democrat can take real adversity. The Louisana Governor is a lightweight and also is no leader in times of need. The Democrat "Traitor" Party has not had a real leader of American substance since JFK, HST and FDR passed from the scene. The whole party and everyone in it has morphed into low life like Cindy Sheehan and her "hippie" ilk. New Orleans will be saved, not by these incompetents, but by the courageous, brave, determined and optimistic people of Louisiana and our great President GW Bush!!!

Fill up my tank. Go to work on the road. Fill up my tank tomorrow. Go to work on the road. Fill up my tank the third day. Go to work on the road.

Where do you see the feasabilty of hunkering down in your doomsday scenario?

I have never seen nor heard of any President facing so many challenges as have confronted G.W. Bush. There have been great wars, and even civil wars, but never has any faced so many challenges on so many diverse fronts. Whether it is war, the economy, our divided politics, NASA blunders, or now natural disasters, it is a daunting task. But, it is all part of the job, and Bush is either going have to step up to the plate, or step down and hand the reins to someone you can. The buck stop at his desk; and what he does, or fails to do, will determine the future of his administration, his party, and the nation.

Bush is going to have to do whatever can be done to get ahead of game. He is going to have to partially break with his supply side ideology and do what needs to get done now. No matter how uncomfortable it may be, the facts are that private enterprise has not done anything to stem the tide of illegal immigration, nor has it done anything to boost domestic oil production or gasoline refining, nor has it added nuclear power plants, nor has it been able to produced a structurally sound urban environment in New Orleans and elsewhere. Our country's problems have not and are not going to be solved by free market forces alone, and it is about time that our government steps up to play a direct leadership role in solving some of these issues.

Bush and the Republican Party, can either step up to the challenge, or pack their bags. You can't sugar coat and gloss over what is before us; nor can you statistically manipulate your way out of an overt situation that will confront every voter as they gas up to drive to the voting booth. The time to act is yesterday, and this President will either be remembered as one of our greatest, or as an absolute failure and narrow minded ideologue.

Ironically, I had heard that it was Bush that called the Gov. to ask them to issue mandatory evacuations. It appears, that NO takes pride in not having to issue mandatory evacs...and they let this one go until others prodded them.

We can build a camp fire

You are out of your mind! We get a storm like this, and you want to put MORE CO2 into the atmoshere?!? You got stock in building materials & construction companies?

What kind of unfeeling, Gaea-hating, man spirited person are you?

I'll bet you eat MEAT, too!

"Remember on 9/11 the reporters refused to show the footage of the real carnage going on? Are they censoring the news again?"

I think thats quite possible. I've seen numerous shots of people on roof tops and little doggies being rescued, but I haven't seen any pictures or video of the levee breaches.

Welp, if you build a city below sea level, I guess you gotta expect a little water now and then.
