Hurricane Katrina made landfall today at 6:10AM CDT, and she continues to drive northward into Mississippi and Alabama. Several local radar sites are down. Tornado and flash flood watches and warnings are widespread.
President Bush has declared major disaster areas, clearing the way for federal aid.

I'm not alone then. It used to run so often on ESPN News that I had to stop watching.
Okay, you stay in your "perfect" bubble-sphere playing armchair Godess. Meanwhile the rest of the world will deal with the harsh realities of day to day life.
Bless him...I feel so for him. You can see it on his face. And bless him for rescuing the flag first.
Your arguments are petty, foolish and like mine have no place on this thread. Good night sir.
You're welcome. I just went to the severe weather site:
http://kamala.cod.edu/svr/
In the past 24 hours - beginning now - give or take an hour, they posted:
137 separate tornado warnings
8 separate severe thunderstorm warnings
48 separate flash flood warnings
Does anyone here have any idea about the type people you are talking about? jennifer
Speaking of helping, can somebody find out from Fox News what is left of Jackie's home (the lady at the Superdome who was being interviewed on her way in). If it's damaged, maybe FReepers can take up a collection for her and her children.
Sometimes the help you need can't wait for the "organized relief effort". I know I'd do what I had to do if it were my family, and pay the price for it when I could.
....
Exactly, thank you for your common sense towards these people in a time of desperation.
Thank you. N. I will own that title with pride - and my friends and family made me a four day party this time.
Uh, a curmudgeon is a step up from a misanthrope, is it? I have been called both!
Isn't that the truth? They spend all this money to send cameras all over the world, yet they usually end up using the same few images over and over again. No wonder the MSM is in trouble -- they have no clue on how to use the advantages they do have.
FEMA: I-10 bridge northeast from NOLA to Slidell has been "compromised" and may be unusable for months.
FEMA director on MSNBC..preliminary..preliminary reports that I-10 bridge between New Orleans and Slidell may have been comprimised..may not be able to get people back to their homes in New Orleans for WEEKS.
Somehow I don't think your mother was out stealing diapers for you. Some freepers seem to think it would be okay. It's a legitimate need.
The point of my story is that my father didnt even realize there was a hurricaine until he got home. I came from an very comfortable family in one of the weathiest communities in New England. They would have sent the help out to steal.
I would donate to Jackie
I told her I would send her Steno Fuel if she needs it.
Next time you talk to her, if she mentions she's needing Steno, let me know via freepmail and send me her mailing address. I'll take care of the rest.
That may also explain why we haven't heard much from Slidell.
Reminds me of the time I was traveling through Indianapolis on 465...Was difficult to see the car in front of you....finally pulled over under 71st street underpass....Just then the announcer came on radio...."A tornado had touch down....at 465 and 71st Street".....No wonder driving was so difficult.
Exactly. That's why FR is the best place to get news when these events occur.
Thou shall not steal.
It's God's commandment.
It's the law.
The law doesn't say that you shouldn't steal unless you need clean diapers.
I'm not going to sit here and wring my hands like a liberal.
