Sen. Landrieu (D-LA) Faults President Bush for Storm Damage
Fox News | 8/29/05

Posted on 08/29/2005 5:23:23 AM PDT by pabianice

You couldn't make this stuff up. Landrieu just spoke on Fox News, saying that the damage to LA will be worse than it had to be because "the government" (Evil Republicans) didn't spend enough money on building levees and other protective structures for New Orleans. She then stated that using the strategic oil reserves to alleviate shortages from damaged oil rigs wouldn't be of much help because "the government" (Evil Republicans) hasn't spent enough federal money (your money) in building a greater industrial base for LA, which "the government" (Evil Republicans) has neglected.

I feel so ashamed. If only I'd urged Evil Republicans to collect more taxes, none of this had to happen.

My question has always been, WHAT DUMB-ASS DECIDED TO BUILD A MAJOR METRO AREA 12 FT. UNDER SEALEVEL?

The Dutch built a major country, about twice the size of NJ, on land essentially at or below sea level: lowest point: Zuidplaspolder -7 m; highest point: Vaalserberg 322 m. Half the country is below sea level.

The Venetians built a major city-state on stilts.

**I think someone is looking at their last term in the Senate.**

I certainly hope so; first and last!

If it weren't for the expectation of Federal involvement, to be paid for by the rest of the country, people wouldn't live in these areas. As a result, these events wouldn't be considered disasters and less human suffering would exist. In addition, private business would figure out a way to protect their assets and pass the cost along to the customer, therefore ensuring a ready supply of the commodities they harvest and distribute.

Then again, we stopped allowing the market to solve these problems a long time ago.

As long as the entire roof doesn't come off or fall down on them, they should be high enough up to be safe from the water, although they feel that the bottom levels might be submerged before it's all over. They all must be frightened in there.

Hmm, I think it's much more likely that GOD is coming through New Orleans and cleaning it up and out. Lots of prophetic words coming through. In the end it will be a good thing. Certainly NOT Bush's fault! Cheez.

Give to the Salvation Army, not the Red Cross. Much better organization.

I heard her yesterday saying "thanks" to Bush for declaring state of emergency before the disaster.

Perhaps it's the rest of the country's fault for not allowing multiple states to have offloading facilities for tankers and putting all "our eggs in one basket" with Louisiana. We've known this was a problem for a long time. But instead of fixing the problem and opening up the petroleum industry, they're going to keep on trying to snuff out big bad oil. (present State of Louisiana and it's esteemed Senator excepted).

I am not sure it makes a whole lot of sense to have a big city where New Orleans is.

My question is why did they build New Orleans there in the first place? Does anyone know?
There must be an answer to this question...

Because it was at the mouth of the Mississippi. There was a good reason to have SOMETHING there, but not a large city the size of New Orleans, given the exposure to hurricanes.

But what do you expect? The French built it.

I should have known that someone else would have asked the same question. I should know by now that, upon entering a thread with over 100 posts, read first then ask questions...

I think you mean Illinois, not New York. NY has more than it's fair share of liberal moonbats, but Carol Mosley Braun is not one of them.

I was reading through the thread before I corrected this, so as not to duplicate it.

When the left accuses Bush of changing the weather and causing environmental damage - the first picture that comes to mind is that of bush wearing the pointy hat and robes of the Sorcerer in Disney's Sorcerers Apprentice.

But Bush would make a lousy Sorcerer character - he's to happy faced so the whole analogy is just plain funny and stupid.

You could make a case the left is responsible for global warming with all the jawing they do about it. They're all talk and no action.

Art said that he and Whitley Streiber wrote the book that the movie The Day After Tomorrow was all about - the movie where the sudden hurricane like ice storm buries new York in50 feet of ice.

Anything for a dollar!!!

Flood control and maintenance of navigation has been a federal function nearly as long as the Republic has been in existence.

Care to post some proof of that?
Especially the "Flood control" portion?

It certainly makes no sense for the government to spend a lot of money encouraging the growth of a city where New Orleans is.

It's a gesture of solidarity with the Bangladeshis and Hollanders.
