No, not yet. But if there was one in town, I'd see it up here!
First, I compared Landrieu to Mosely Braun. But then I referred to the unnamed senator from New York.
I believe Her Royal Highass has been banned from flying on Delta Airlines due to her arrogant and beligerent behavior.
Which is why there's not really any need for further discussion between us. You refuse to see the stupidity of it, but it is there, and it is not the French to blame, actually. We took the ball and ran with it, after all. Well, not all of us. Some of us have never chosen to build a home on a railroad track because we fear getting killed by a train. You want to make NO safe and habitable? Fine. You pay for it.
I refuse to blame the people of New Orleans for being the victims of a once-in-a-lifetime hurricane. How far do you carry this ridiculous position? Should all of the occupants of the cities on the Gulf of Mexico and on the coasts of the Southeastern part of the US be reviled because of the choice they have made? They are contributing to the wealth and prosperity of this country. They are also overly represented in the military of this country.
You refuse to see the stupidity of it, but it is there, and it is not the French to blame, actually. We took the ball and ran with it, after all.
I don't see any stupidity at all. The people of New Orleans have taken reasonable measures to protect themselves from hurricanes and flooding. Over the past 200 years, they have been reasonably successful. There are limits to what can be done to make themselves risk free. The same holds true for making buildings safe from earthquakes. At least, you are no longer blaming the French.
Some of us have never chosen to build a home on a railroad track because we fear getting killed by a train. You want to make NO safe and habitable? Fine. You pay for it.
Poor analogy. Get off your high horse. The few pennies that you contribute as part of your tax dollar to help your fellow Americans in time of diaster won't be missed. We send disaster relief all over the world and you squawk when American citizens need assistance.
Why don't you direct your ire at your Governor:
"April 30, 2004, LANSING Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today formally requested that President Bush declare a major disaster for the state of Michigan as a result of the dangers to public safety caused by the widespread and severe infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in six southeast Michigan counties. Granholm said this unique disaster is of such severity and magnitude in the affected areas that an effective response is beyond the capabilities of the state and the affected local governments, which is why she is seeking the major disaster declaration from the federal government.
"Since coming to Washington in January 2003, I have made agriculture policy one of my priorities. I immediately began work on acquiring substantial disaster relief, as crops in the District have been devastated in recent years by natural disasters; and our farmers need help. Through hard work, my colleagues and I secured a quarter of a billion dollars in disaster relief for specialty crop farmers."
On June 30, 2004, President Bush declared a major disaster for the state of Michigan, triggering the release of federal funds to help people recover from the severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding that occurred May 20-24, 2004.
This is good news for Wayne County, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano said. Many households suffered great damage due to the flooding, and we hope to get them the relief they need.
Details of the disaster declaration and assistance programs are as follows:
Type of Assistance: Hazard Mitigation: [Assistance to state and local governments for actions taken to prevent or reduce long- term risk to life and property from natural hazards.]
Designated Counties: Arenac, Barry, Berrien, Cass, Genesee, Gladwin, Ingham, Ionia, Jackson, Kent, Livingston, Macomb, Mecosta, Newaygo, Oakland, Ottawa, Saginaw, Sanilac, Shiawassee, St. Clair, St. Joseph, Van Buren, and Wayne counties are eligible to apply for assistance under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program
Pathetic Leftist Rats! Just last nite I made a remark to my wife, that 'somehow' the Left will find a way to make this 'Bush's fault'. The trademark of the true liberal left is their unfailing ability to look beyond themselves as being responsible for anything and point the Blaming Fickle Finger of Fate at someone else for everything.
And I bet when 140 mile per hour winds hit your area the insurance pays. Not so in Louisiana. Wind blames flood, flood blames wind. All the while policy holders have paid premiums for years and now when it is time for a claim all we get are excuses.
But as for your bet, like all insurance, it is a crapshoot. Downtown Lansing, where I live, was hit by a microburst while a tornado was killing two people on the north side of town, back in the spring of '99. My neighbor's tree was partially uprooted and landed on my brand-new roof. The roof wasn't damaged because the tree was still anchored in the ground, but the roof most certainly would have suffered if another storm blew through with the tree still in its precarious position. I asked my insurer what they could do for me. Their answer: Nothing. Imminent danger of damage is not damage. Furthermore, I was told that, now that they were aware of the situation, any damage the tree may cause in the future would not be covered because the tree, in its position, had become a known hazard. Since the tree was on my neighbor's property, my neighbor paid for its removal--didn't even ask me to split the cost. I was lucky. So, no...insurance doesn't always pay, no matter where you are.
