It's a hurricane. The beginning is nothing, the middle is really bad, the eye is nice, then it gets bad again, then it starts to get better.

See? I know. :)

Seriously, I've been in hurricanes. You think they aren't that bad until your trees start to go over. Then suddenly they get really scary.

And after, and during the eye, people get killed because they think it is "safe" outside, but it isn't. Things fall.

If the roof comes off, I think they are in big trouble. The whole structure will be compromised and the rest of the interior will likely sustain catastrophic damage.

I rather doubt it. It doesn't look like the roof is in any way structurally supporting the rest of the building.

Superdome roof appears ready to "peel away." --WDSU

The air pressure combined with wind is doing this. The domes massive horizontal structure can't take it.

Fats Domino did a version of I Hear You Knockin'. Oddly enough, entertainer Gale Storm (get it?) of "My Little Margie" TV show fame, also recorded I Hear You Knockin' in the 1950's.

My dad says he still has power, so I guess everybody in BR does. At least the places with the buried lines.

Travis (WAPT) reporting from Super Dome it was a 3'X5' section missing. But roof is now vibrating and they expect more to come off.

No matter what, NO was going to get some flooding. A few feet is not that bad. It is the catastrophic failure of the levees or the overtopping by storm surge that is the real worry, which could fill the bowl to 15-20'.

... a lightning rod that was on top of the SD roof came down onto the field .... I would say a small section ... if looking down on top of SD, it is a 12 piece pie ... confirming 1/12th section affected, trying to be pulled off each time little pieces are being pulled off
