Well, I think the evacuation should have been ordered sooner, and I think they should have had some sort of plans for getting people without cars (the poor, the elderly, tourists, students) out of the city.

I hope that everything turns out all right for the folks at the Dome, but I still think that is not a good situation.

You can bet that they will reevaluate their emergency plans after this is over.

And we still don't know about the storm surge.

Yes! I've heard him, and love his demeanor!

I appreciate FOX and most of their reporters!
Watched many of them come and go!

Some are better than others.

I don't understand why the people don't just head out in boats into the sea

Try the NOAA IR image

It's got a real clear image of the eye, but it's a little data intensive.

I have a question. Banners on FNC say people in low lying areas of Alabama ordered to evacuate.

Does this mean they are evacuating now or were they previously (like yesterday) ordered to evac?

Cantore is like the Special Forces guy of the weather world. He will always turn up at the tip of the spear. I expect to see him reporting live from inside a tornado funnel some day.

If I understand correctly last night, the local police were confiscating boats last night for potential rescue operations.

"Steve is a fine reporter - too good to be hurricane stories"

Agree, he has certainly had his share this year. The story that scared me more was when he was in Nuevo Laredo.

Bill Hemmer, formerly of CNN, was on Fox News Channel last night with his co-host. Another right of center reporter/anchor escapes CNN.

Boats aren't big enough to survive the storm..BUT they do anchor them away from the boat slips so they don't get battered too much.

If you have ever ridden out a hurricane at sea like I have, you wouldn't ask.

I rode out hurricane David (cat 1) off Charleston in '79. NOT fun. Spoiled me for roller coasters.
