Fox - Bridge in Mobile is down.
Reporter in NO on the rooftops reports white caps in the flood zone.
Ditto.
Humor is better than hand wringing and doom predicting. We who are down here know what to do and most of us are just listening to what is happening. Nobody can alter anything now.
We are all different in what we want on this thread. All I want is for the sniiping to stop, just scroll by things you don't want to see.
Monday, August 29, 2005St. Bernard update 10:45 a.m.Some people who stayed in St. Bernard Parish were
forced up into their attics to escape the floodwaters,
said state Sen. Walter Boasso, who heard from local
officials that some houses in Chalmette had water
rising beyond the second floor.
We know people were up in the attics hollering for
help, said Boasso, who evacuated to Baton Rouge and
was camped out at the state Office of Emergency
Preparedness. Hopefully rescue workers will be able to
get to people who are trapped before the water rises
too high, he said.[end snip]

I'm also confused.
All morning I've been hearing about breached levees and that P lake spilling over.
And yet I keep reading that NO dodged the bullet.
I am totally unfamiliar with NO. I'm not proud of that fact.
I do know about hurricanes being from Merryland and now living in Delaware.
But it sure doesn't sound like a dodged bullet to me.
Bush is going to make remarks coming off AF1 in AZ.
What's the over/under how many questions it will take for a reporter will use to jump onto the Cindy Sheehan circus?
::shivers!::
AT 1126 AM CDT...FLASH FLOODING WAS RAPIDLY BECOMING MORE
WIDESPREAD OVER JEFFERSON PARISH AS DANGEROUS HURRICANE KATRINA
MOVES NORTHEAST OF THE AREA. THIS IS A VERY LIFE THREATENING
SITUATION.
I used to send Box Project boxes of needed items, gifts, etc. to a black family in Itta Bena, MS, on the delta. I pray they and their descendants are okay.
St. Bernard is a parish/county located due east of the city of New Orleans.
When looking at a map of extreme southeastern Louisiana, you see two "fingers" of land that are technically peninsulas: one extending southeast, one due east.
The southeast "finger" is Plaquemines parish and is the path currently taken by the Mississippi to the Gulf; the eastern "finger", St. Bernard, is how the river used to run to the Gulf many, many moons ago.
The largest town in St. Bernard is Chalmette, my home town. Areas to the east of it are more sparsely populated, with a good portion of the parish very low-lying and, at the eastermost points, downright marshy.
Hope this helps.
The man with his dog is really sad to read....hope they do ok!
It's all relative.
Snakes, gaters and fire ants...no fun...
That sounds reasonable.
FYI to all dialup users...
If you wish to browse without pictures:
In IE: Go to Tools/Internet Options, pick the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Multimedia "list", uncheck "Show Pictures"

Yes, I understand completely. Shep appears to be happy the French Quarter is still there...to hack with the rest of N.O.
Prayer does good...now we need to pray and roll up our sleeves for the help that will be needed. New Orleans, southern Louisiana and MS are going to need lots of help.

It's not at ALL unusual. Threads get stolen here all the time, unfortunately. We just have to not let the turkeys getcha down.
"Parishes" are what Louisianaians call their counties.
We have power. The trees are a bit scary as the wind comes in bands as does the rain.
No alligators threatening us yet. Hubby is cooking mustard greens and corn bread.
Sorry is that offends anyone.
