I am never posting to Free Republic ever again so long as I live.

Well maybe a little.

Okay maybe more than a little.

It appears that John Kerry has hacked your FR account.

....Need one thread for hurricane news and another for children, asses and morons.

And from the tone of your post, there is no doubt you will flock to the later.

Can't stand a bit of chit chat and good humor? Try a different forum!

abandoned N.O. patrol car Canal Street

Hmm. Not as bad as it could be, but still... our NO Field Office is located on Canal Street. Hope they all had sense enough to get out of town.

Didn't mean to be flip. People live along the water/coast, get hammered, they rebuild, and unless they build up higher or bring in tons of soil, the elevation remains unchanged.

Unfortunately, it probably will.

Storm surge to the east of the storm does not peak until several hours after the eye passes, as the onshore winds keep piling up more and more water.

On the coast, the rising water is accompanied by pounding waves.

But it's really surreal in the bays and other protected waters. For hours after the peak of the storm's fury, the water just quietly rises - but there are almost no waves. Many a bay front homeowner around here has watched in awe and dread as the water crept up their yards and into their homes.

I wish I had a dollar for everyone I've heard say:

"I thought it was over, but then the water just started rising..."

I watched it myself during Dennis. It was quite an experience.

Where's the eye of the hurricane?

They were talking about winds changing to the north, once the eye has passed, making it more of a dangerous situation.

Is that still the case?

Not much on the radio at the moment.

Jeez. Did I wander onto the EveryoneIsReallyPissedOffHere thread, or what?

Well posting dozens of tasteless sex jokes while the worst of the storm is hitting New Orleans and we aren't getting much info as to what is or isn't happening there might just have been a very bad idea. Where is your self control? Did you really have to spam this thread, when there are thousands of others? Is it really too difficult for you to exercise a bit of self-restraint and act like an adult for a few hours?

Are you aware of how desperate some of the posts were over the last few days from freepers in the New Orleans area? For now this is the only thread for them to get early info on their homes and relatives, with the VERY REAL threat of many drownings? It may be some of their homes with water up to the rooftops(which has been confirmed for a couple of hours now). While your home is safe, why clutter this news thread with meaningless trashy banter just because it isn't you who is suffering or under real anxiety? Some freepers have lost most of what they own. Some may have lost neighbors. Is your own desire for self gratification through attention-seeking jokes anywhere near as important, that it needs to take place here? Ever consider the others who are suffering?

ANWR was stripped out of the Energy Bill

It's in the Budget Bill (I said that didn't I, if I said Energy Bill, my bad), it was put there to get past the sure filibuster if it remained in the Energy Bill.
