Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

They said TX Hwy patrol was setting up road construction outside of Houston making it worse. Dragged out a map. Looks like ~350mi between NO and Houston.
Wow! That's not much protection tonight.
It didn't help that he airlines abandoned the tourists so they wouldn't lose money.
Gonna get some sleep. Get up early before heading to work...and see how bad it is then.
Y'all be good.
Everyone on the coast....stay safe...check in if you can and let us know that you are ok.
Take care--nighters!
I believe that they have an emergency battery-powered lighting system, like most stadii.
I watched the press conference this morning announcing the mandatory evac. My first thought was, there are eight people up on that stage, and not one of them has a clue what to do. I'll admit the projections are overwhelming, but you are elected LEADERS! Unfortunately, you don't have the luxury of discussion, debate, contingencies, and indecision.
And everytime those two speak, I think less of them. They are idiots.
Did he really? A helicopter?
That is the first glimmer of hope all evening. Thanks.
I'm praying that the winds will continue to decline and spare our fellow Americans. I just can't imagine the fear and horror those poor folks are going through.
I drove through Houston two months ago, it was gridlocked then also.
This is so awful.
If only they could have gotten everybody out.
The other one. :-)
Yes I10.
Friday when she said "We can make this a good experience," I knew what we were dealing with.........LOL.
Radar looks like she's sucking in dry air on her backside.
