Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Thanks. It looks to be 2 hours old, so I'm not hopeful of another one tonight.
Janice needs to get some rest, she has been working all day long I think.
The two buoys on the Shell Platforms have not been reporting all day. Maybe when they shut the oil platform in, they also cut power to the buoy -- don't know.
A 3:00am 8/29/05 reading of the buoy we have been watching may give a good indication of what New Orleans might expect...
At least my thoughts...
I might get up around 7 AM Central, but not before...
If this turns out to wipe out Old NO, it would be similar in devastation to one of those Arab nukes. Seems like nobody is talking about this storm bringing the country to its knees. Old NO will be rebuilt on higher ground and we can do it without working up a sweat. Same, I think, for an Arab nuke.
Not just that, parking is at a premium. Most people park on the street. He lives just off St. Charles Avenue and rides the trolly car to Tulane - about 6 miles away because he's concerned that he will lose his parking place on the street in front of the house where he lives.
He rides his bicycle to the market because it takes forever to get a parking place. Kind of like I used to say about going to University of Houston when someone asked what my major was, I would respond "parking".
I'm sure it will help a little.
I know that when you're in a tough spot it certainly helps to know people are pulling for and praying for you!
That was ridiculous
BUT, I don't mean to offend you.
sw
How far west does it need to fall before NO is spared major harm?
Someone should start a prayer thread just for the Superdome folks. I'm scared out of my mind for them.
I agree. I am continuing to pray for that number to be as low as possible.
Thank you, Nittany. I shudder to think what might have happened if we had been closer to the eye when we waited out Hurricane Andrew in Miami...I'll know better in the future.
all you have to do is say you cant smoke now, the place will explode...and then people will not smoke. or make a smokers area. People do their best in emergencies, except when they are nannied to death.
Janice used to be on MSNBC with Imus - she used to do the scum report (hollywood gossip etc)
Dante's Inferno?
There will be many good people in there but don't think there won't be the bad guys too. We can hope they will be too scared to start anything.
She's pretty amazing. I can see why they went back to her a few times. So full of faith.
Janice Dean was on Imus before Fox. Does that explain anything??????
Scratch last about not getting another report tonight.
