Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Heavy rain and wind expected to hit about 9PM and the big stuff by midnight.
The folks on I-10 going out of NO know their contraflow rules. Those in the left lane are waiting to get on the proper highway for them. Once they are there, they will travel in all lanes on the freeway.
we are in Texarkana so will probably get some of the rain but hopefully no tornados...heard a young lady interviewed from Tulane this afternoon and she was praising the president of Tulane for giving them three options and none of them included staying at Tulane during the hurricane...lol
Just got back from filling up both cars and three 5 gallon gas cans at $2.58 a gallon. There were loads of other people at the gas station, a line at every pump, all with apparently the same idea.
They said being East of any hurricane is devestating.
Sorry my wife doesn't allow me to date ..... that IS what you meant isn't it?
We were below half a tank when I filled up. ;). And I didn't buy any new gas cans. Trying NOT to panic, as best I can.
Correction, there are NOT lots of refineries in New Jersey, that is a myth. There are only 6.
Refineries: Distillation capacity of 615,000 Barrels Per Calendar Day (BCD) (2005)
Amerada Hess Corp. (Port Reading @ -0- BCD*) *Downstream capacity only
Chevron USA Inc. (Perth Amboy @ 80,000 BCD)
Citgo Asphalt Refining Co. (Paulsboro @ -0- BCD*) * 51,000 BCD Idle on 1/1/05
Sunoco Inc. (Westville @ 145,000 BCD)
ConocoPhillips (Linden @ 230,000 BCD)
Valero Refining Co. New Jersey (Paulsboro @ 160,000 BCD)
Are there more people showing up than they expected? I'd sure hate to have to be in there . . . eventually there will be no electricity, yukky bathrooms . . . ick.
(so that Mod note was for real ? giggling again)
She's the most obnoxious person.
LOL!!
For his own good.
I think we will start seeing long gas lines by the end of the week.
It would probably be best if you followed through with that course of action.
Yeah, that' the best I can do from here also. Light a candle and pray.
In California I was always either in an earthquake or nearby to be able to offer help to friends/neighbors.
Yes ma'am.
My brother-in-law is a guy I trust. I asked him just what part of the structure he would go to if he had to stay in the super dome. He said basically the same as your husband. He also said he would not be in a postion to have to make that choice even if he had to hitch a ride out of town.
He says he would want to see the roof stats before he went in there as well. It's the roof he would be concerned about, and also the underpinings of the structure itself.
Something he said was very telling, "Just because a structure is large and heavy does not make it safe-sometimes, the bigger they are the harder they fall. Nature is stronger than the ideas and buildings of men".
Prayers up and I am sure glad I am not there, maybe the thing will ease up as it nears land.
AR
I think he's a bit scared being there. Wonder if he has a girlfriend there or something? What would draw someone into a situation that is so potentially dangerous?
Walter said the city water pumps would be destroyed and will need fixing or replacement, so that's why it would take 6 months to pump the water out.
But I'm concerned with the oil and gas surface residue laying on top of the water. Could that catch fire?

Quote from another board
The first few minutes of electronic trading saw oil up to almost $71 a barrel and nat gas up almost 30%. If this thing hits Pascagoula as I expect, Oil could go to $80 this week and nat gas to $15 per 1000 bcf.
