Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Bourbon Street must be giving up...Shep said that a lot of the businesses along that street haven't even boarded up their windows!
Winds are now too high and variable for any aircraft takeoff or landing operations.
Anything still at the NO airport when this hits is going to be trashed, but you can't get them off the ground in this stuff.
During the storm it should be bearable, as the outside temps will be much cooler.
Yikes, it could become a super toilet bowl. :(
Reading these threads is like watching a train wreck...Fortunately, I think a lot of folks are gonna be disappointed...

MOST OF THE AREA WILL BE UNINHABITABLE FOR WEEKS...PERHAPS LONGER. AT LEAST ONE HALF OF WELL CONSTRUCTED HOMES WILL HAVE ROOF AND WALL FAILURE. ALL GABLED ROOFS WILL FAIL...LEAVING THOSE HOMES SEVERELY DAMAGED OR DESTROYED.
THE MAJORITY OF INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS WILL BECOME NON FUNCTIONAL. PARTIAL TO COMPLETE WALL AND ROOF FAILURE IS EXPECTED. ALL WOOD FRAMED LOW RISING APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL BE DESTROYED. CONCRETE BLOCK LOW RISE APARTMENTS WILL SUSTAIN MAJOR DAMAGE...INCLUDING SOME WALL AND ROOF FAILURE.

If the water starts coming in those people on the ground floor are going to try to climb into the stands.
The vision I am seeing is very ugly if that happens.

I, too, have a foreboding feeling that nothing will ever be the same again in New Orleans. I go there about 8 times a year for four days at a time for my work. Was supposed to go this week, and supposed to go in October. Now I wonder, as I pray and pray for my many friends from that area and my own beloved Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Interisting how no official has mentioned that.
They have been talking about most windows blowing out in high rises. But no talking about the dangers at the Dame.
The Red Cross will have a concession stand selling it. LOL
That's why when we get hurricane warnings here in SC I make my plans to evacuate...I'd never leave my best friend behind!
