Hurricane Katrina, Live Thread, Part V
NHC - NOAA ^ | 28 August 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 08/28/2005 9:35:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico. Mandatory evacuation of New Orleans is finally underway. Louisiana officials are warning of complete failure to levy systems, and pleading with people to leave low lying areas. For those who choose to stay, they are recommending picks and axes for breaking through to access their roofs during flooding.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be rushing hurricane preparations to completion.

Their fortunes? CRIPES. It doesn't take much of a fortune teller.. Hey, where are all the NO voodoo doctors? Can't they do something? I mean, now's the time to prove their mettle.

........their belongings are being looked at as they enter.

Somebody thinks that a terrorist is going to eneter an evac station?

The FNC explains that they are looking for contraband such as alcohol and weapons.

You can take in cigarettes, but, unfortunately, smoking is not allowed inside the Superdome.

With the waves well ahead of the storm, the flooding could occur long before the eye of the storm even makes landfall.

And for people who haven't been through a hurricane before, the prediction of landfall time can be misleading since the storm is half over by the time the eye comes on shore.

I don't think I've heard anyone on the news mention this.

Bless you Leilani - but as someone else mentioned, your father is not in that grave only the earthly vessel for your father. I know - hard to get our minds to accept that.

However, should we need a body at some time after death - it would be a new one created by God - not the worn out, discarded one of earth. Do not worry about your father - he is safe. (Just ask God or Jesus to give your father a hug for you. For some reason that helps me when I am longing for my departed ones.)

It will be awful when some of this tape that has Shep interviewing these Clueless people comes out after this is over and the deceased match some of those on Camera. I have serious doubts about that Dome also.

.....If this thing devastates the Port of New Orleans....

There will be a new course for the Missippi river. It will be months before a navigable channel is restored.

That's true. There's been so much focus on NO (and justifiably so given the potential for extreme disaster) but Mobile could easily experience terrible destruction as well.

Agreed my friend. You get just an empty, sick feeling watching this. So many can't get out, those kids outside th Superdome tear at your heart...so many other foolish that will not ge out...all of them caught up in something beyond our mortal understanding.

I still pray the storm will veer off from a direct hit on NO, but if it does that, there are just others (much fewer in number perhaps) who are thn in its path.

Our prayers are for and with them all. The results of this catastrophie, barring a miracle where it weaknes signficantly and misses NO...could end up impacting all of us significantly.

For those of us who aren't from the area, is Plaquemines Parish east of New Orleans proper?

Plaqueminnes Parish abuts Orleans Parish on the southeast side. Miss River passes from Orleans to Plaq. just east of N.O. Plaq. parish extends southeast to the gulf; the Miss River remains in Plaq. for the final 60-80 miles of its' trip to the Gulf (on a map, Plaq. Parish is the finger of land that extends fartherest southeast into the gulf). Hope this helps; cities Boothville; Venice;Pointe a la Hache (Grand Isle is in Jefferson Parish).

Indeed it will. NO has been of the most vital importance several times in the history of the country. It is the port of the Mississippi Valley, although freight can be transferred to alternative routes at some cost. The port will be rebuilt, even if the old city is moved to higher ground.
