I wanted to thank you for your comments, but also let you know that I was never banned. I took a self-imposed break from Free Republic, as I was becoming quite a jerk (oh, like that has changed) to other posters in arguments.

Yeah, I know.
You are funny, pointed and almost always nail the targetbut even with your self-imposed exile, you are not likely to see that "plays well with others" box checked any time soon. Considering the career you've had...well, let's just say I think it's an asset.
Now, that said, don't let it go to your head, because I definitely don't think you need it to focus on making it any bigger. ; )
On a serious note: The thing I appreciate more than anything else is that not only do you understand the philosophical underpinnings of conservatism, you understand the realities of politics. That is a somewhat rare combination around here.
Thanks again...and thanks for your commitment to our country. As I have said many times, to many people on this forumIt is because of men like you, that families like mine sleep soundly at night. We can never appreciate that enough.

Wow. Blushing.
Thanks. I appreciate it. Had to chuckle at "plays well with others", because I remember how my mother used to get on me when my teachers complained about that very thing.

I think you ought to send a copy of this to the head of every journalism school in the country.

I remember how my mother used to get on me when my teachers complained about that very thing I figured. I like the sound of your mom. I have a feeling she said it with a twinkle in her eye. Even if you never saw it.

Great Rant, Dog! I just got got back from a weekend gunshow in Augusta, Maine, where we legally sold legal firearms to Maine citizens in our continuing effort to aggravate the One-World Socialists who really dispise that nasty old Second Ammendment. Yours is the first post I've read since returning, and I'm having a hard time wiping the grin off my face!

Thanks again, everyone. I'm really flattered.
Now, if anyone knows how to get more circulation out of this piece, since so many seem to like it, you have my permission to post it anywhere you want or send it to anyone you wish.

Sir--you ARE a writer and a darn great one! You have the ability to provide us a view that is entertaining and informative and that is far more than most can do who call themselves a writer or author--and certainly you have more to offer than any journalist I've labored to read or listen.

I enjoyed this very very very much.
Kindly correct 'altar' for 'alter' and 'capital' for 'capitol' and may a thousand trackbacks bloom
I see hear Dan R. turning to the camera and saying

The bottom line is that more Americans love America more than they like you. More Americans trust America more than they trust you to say anything nice about her or her people. We have not forgotten what a wonderful country this is, just because you dont say so anymore. We have many more reasons to love our country than you can give us to hate it. Just one more reason to love a PD rant.
The rest of it? You pushed their buttons reeeeeeeeeal good!
Thanks!

Hey, partner,
As always, I agree with 99.44% of what you write. I do think on this one you overloaded on the anger and were a tad short on crispness.
I have an impossible goal of writing like Mark Steyn, a goal I recommend to all other writers. He sets the standard that killing with a stiletto is more effective (and more amusing to the reader) than killing with a meat ax. It's a very hard discipline.
Other than plaguing you with an impossible goal, I liked your latest.
Cordially,
Congressman Billybob
