Just talked to Basil on site in Crawford, Texas. Currently there are about 100 folks there helping to set up. They have not received word about the caravan arrival in Waco yet. JimRob is riding with the caravan. She thinks it might get to Crawford around 1:00 p.m.
Basil says the stage is set up, the sound system is excellent and they have hung the most beautiful banners overnighted by W04Man on the stage. A big thanks for the banners, they are much appreciated!
Someone arrived early and hung yellow ribbons everywhere.
They have an American flag that is about 50 feet by 40 feet. Children of military personnel serving in the Middle East have written notes to their parents on the stripes of this flag. A very touching thing to behold.
The HOT Chapter booth is being unloaded right now. The will sell buttons made by Angelwood to help off set costs.
Someone rented the Community Center for our use so there is access to AC. However, they also have 10 tents set up. And there is a Moonwalk for the kiddos.
To top everything else there is BBQ on the grill! Basil is the official taster and says it is great!
That is all the news I have at the moment. It is hard to get a cell phone connection to Crawford but when I hear more I will try to update everyone.
CRAWFORD, Texas This one-stoplight town of 700 residents near President Bush's ranch braced for thousands of visitors Saturday, most in a cross-country caravan for a pro-Bush rally and others to support Cindy Sheehan's (search) anti-war demonstration.
More than 3,000 people were expected at the school football stadium for a pro-Bush rally, the culmination of the "You don't speak for me, Cindy!" tour that started last week in California (search).
It would be the largest counter protest since Sheehan started camping out off the road leading to Bush's ranch Aug. 6, soon after his Texas vacation began. She vowed to remain unless he talked to her about the war with Iraq that claimed the life of her son Casey and more than 1,870 other U.S. soldiers.
The pro-Bush caravan was coordinated by Move America Forward (search), a group led by former Republican California Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian and Sal Russo, the strategist who in 2003 launched one of the two simultaneous efforts to recall California's then-governor, Democrat Gray Davis.
Meanwhile, hundreds were expected at Sheehan's camp for a somber Saturday ceremony honoring soldiers serving in Iraq. The protest, which has swelled from dozens on weekdays to about 1,000 the past two weekends, will end Wednesday.
Sheehan, of Vacaville, Calif., said that after the protest ends, some of the group will spread its message on a tour, with the first stop probably in the southeast Texas district of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, a Republican.
Bush has said he appreciates Sheehan's right to protest and understands her anguish but will not change his schedule to meet with her. His vacation is to end Sept. 2.
Sheehan and other grieving families met with Bush about two months after her son died last year, before she became a vocal opponent of the war.
Crawford has not seen this big a crowd since the scathing documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" was shown last summer on a screen at the football field, drawing about 3,000 people. The screening was organized by the Crawford Peace House, which also is helping Sheehan. Earlier that night, more than 300 Bush supporters held a rally to counter the showing of the film.
YES! We need a picture thread!
Bob, you know good and well that most of us helped to make FOX News. We were the ones putting pressure on the cable companies to carry them, we were the first to go out and get satallite so we could get FOX, we were the ones talking them up to everyone and convincing them they were fair and balanced.
Those first years when the only advertising they had was the Onion Blossom, we were the ones who kept them going.
They've known for a week this counterprotest was going to happen and now they're running stories about puppies and ancient murders. They showed non-stop stories about Cindy and her crew and 3,000 people showing up to counter that should be a big story. So....where are they?
The corrupt MSM will see one IMPEACHMENT bus with Sheehan on it as a significant grass roots event by the people (that is actually funded by Code Pink, Soros, MoveOn.org, and other commie organizations) while they will view the true grass roots 3000+ Bush supporters in Crawford as not news.
Likely was F16's or F18's, guarding the skies in the no-fly zone around the Pres. ranch
Made my call. Told them "I want to see as much coverage of today's events re Bush/Troop supporters as we've seen of Sheehan. We've seen a month of Cindy and today is a big event for Bush/Troop supporters and I'd like to see more coverage, lots of it."
Since all we've heard for a month is wall to wall Sheehan, they have a lot of catching up to do. :)
Early this morning one of the reporters said that protestors were following kids home, if they were latch key kids, talked them into using the shower. Can you imagine the parents reaction to that one!!!!!!!!!!!!
The caravan has been publicing this every stop they made!!
WOW!!! This is FANTASTIC!!!!!
Fox is doing a POT program????
Oh great, now we get to watch people smoke pot.
I REALLY THINK WE SHOULD FREEP FOX NEWS CHANNEL IN WASH DC ABOUT THEM ABANDONING THEIR BASE. THEY HAVE BEEN NO MORE FAIR AND BALANCED WHEN IT COMES TO PRO-TROOPS EVENTS.
I'M STARTING TO MAKE MY SIGNS NOW.
I don't think Fox has reported from Crawford for past TWO HOURS.
Get on Fox & Friends!!! Face time at the windows!!!
i read 400.
-- That's more than we're getting from Fox News. Maybe someone like Sean Hannity can contact the newsroom at Fox!--
This is what happens when you have a weekend event. The good newsroom people go home for the weekend....
Where did you get that notion of the Yellow Ribbons? The first time I heard of the ribbons was during the gulf war, one of the girls I worked with husband was in Kuwait, we wore yellow ribbons in his honor to support him, and hopes for a safe return.
I found out later that the yellow ribbon idea is much older than that.
God Bless.
