Former Lt. Gov. Donald S. Beyer Jr. and former congressman L.F. Payne Jr. have indicated they are not interested in running for the U.S. Senate next year.
James Webb, who lives in Arlington County and was a secretary of the Navy under President Ronald Reagan, also is being talked about as a Democratic candidate for the Senate. He could not be reached for comment. Webb has been an outspoken critic of the war in Iraq.

As Allen seeks re-election to the Senate, the Democrats have not been ignoring him. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has been attacking Allen as a politician more interested in running for president than in representing Virginia.Hmmm...can you say Hillary!

James Webb is so yesterday's news. But it really reflects that George Allen is popular in Virginia and the public is satisfied with his record. His reelection prospects are looking better each day.

What a relief this will be. Santorum needs all the help and all the money the GOP can muster. Having Allen safe will help that effort.

That's because Sen. Allen is gonna win.
Nobody is going to drop the time and money necessary to win a race that's pretty much unwinnable for the Democrats right now. I would expect to see a token opponent, but nothing else.
Gov. Warner will probably run for President. It's possible that we could have a 2 Virginian race in 2008.

Hopefully, they will find some money to spare for West Virginia. A recent survey showed US Rep. Shelley Marcaputa trailed "Sheets" Byrd by only 3%, with neither an officially a declared candidate yet. The local NPR station [my AM station was on commercial break] was whining that Byrd would have to 'reintroduce himself' to the people of the state, as if there was a highway, rest stop, or toll booth in the state that he hadn't already named for himself.

I don't think there'll be any shortage of $$$ for West Virginia if Shelley does declare. And if Allen is essentially a shoo-in, I'll be more than willing to do a road trip or two to help defeat the Grand Kleagle (if he even bothers to run).

That is impressive 3% awesome! I am sure the RNC will kick her some cash, she needs to ask! Maybe GWB can visit. I contribute all my money to the party so they can give it to most in need so to speak.
