Clinton: I Would Have Attacked Bin Laden
NewsMax ^ | 8/15/05 | NewsMax

Posted on 08/15/2005 8:08:34 PM PDT by wagglebee

Ex-president Bill Clinton now says he would have taken out Osama bin Laden before the 9/11 attacks – if only the FBI and CIA had been able to prove the al-Qaida mastermind was behind the attack on the U.S.S. Cole.

"I desperately wish that I had been president when the FBI and CIA finally confirmed, officially, that bin Laden was responsible for the attack on the U.S.S. Cole," Clinton tells New York magazine this week. "Then we could have launched an attack on Afghanistan early."

"I don’t know if it would have prevented 9/11," he added. "But it certainly would have complicated it.”

Despite his failure to launch such an attack, Clinton said he saw the danger posed by bin Laden much more clearly than did President Bush.

"I always thought that bin Laden was a bigger threat than the Bush administration did," he told New York magazine.

Puh-leeze. You could bend the law into a twelve-dimensional pretzel when it was your own worthless hide on the line, but when it's a matter of national security you wait for every jot and tittle to be perfectly aligned?

Dear Lord, please allow me to live long enough that I can urniate on this man's grave.

By the time you get to the front of the line, you won't be able to see the grave site under the lake of urine.

He was offered up to you on a silver platter complete with the apple in his mouth and you didn't think we had grounds to hold him.

Because, after all, William Jefferson Clinton is such a stickler for the rule of law....

"Clinton: I Would Have Attacked Bin Laden"

Does he really believe that even his groupies will fall for this? They have to be snickering among themselves.
Bill Clinton's legacy will be that he was bin laden's best friend of the 90's.

The Gorelick Wall is probably the government policy most responsible for our being unready for 9-11.

And the person who created it was put on the 9-11 Commission. When that sort of thing happens, it shows a lack of will to really improve our intelligence and our defenses. The will was to do public relations damage control and allocate blame in such a way that no one was hurt too bad. The mission morphed into trying to blame Bush, but that failed because Condi Rice was too smart and too strong for them.

BTW, Check out my new book, The Figurehead, by Thomas Larus, at lulu.com

There is a very large free sample that can be downloaded. William Baldwin Monfort is the protagonist.

9/11 Panel Member Faults Clinton Inaction

By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - A Sept. 11 commission Democrat disagreed Friday with President Clinton's assessment there wasn't enough intelligence linking al-Qaida to a deadly attack on a Navy ship to justify an attack on the terrorist organization.

Former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey said he believes Clinton should have launched a military strike against al-Qaida following the October 2000 attack on the USS Cole that killed 17 sailors.

"I think he did have enough proof to take action," Kerrey said on ABC's "Good Morning America.

Bob Kerrey, the man who said that Clinton was "a particularly good liar". Thank you, Bob, for your honesty. It's too bad you couldn't stop your more partisan colleagues on the 9/11 Commission from running their pie-holes. The two who have done work for the Clintons.

"Well then , Clinton knew for SURE that Bin Laden bombed OUR Embassies in Africa, and he STILL wouldn't go after Bin Laden????"

Exactly, this latest reference to needing confirmation about Al Qaeda involvement in the bombing of the USS Cole is just more pure fragrant b.s. from the Clinton b.s. factory. Even the 9/11 Commission report, which goes out of its way to try to spin things in a light favorable to the Clinton administration, details numerous high-level discussions in 1998-2000 about the need to take out Al Qaeda, and various opportunities to get Bin Laden which were passed up. One problem was that nearly all Clinton admin. officials held to the view that Bin Laden must be captured and brought to trial, so vast amounts of staff time was spend unproductively seeking ways to launch Special Forces raids which never were ordered, rather than looking for how to wipe out Bin Laden and as many of his camps as possible. Anyway, Clinton knew for YEARS that Bin Laden needed to be dealt with, it didn't take the USS Cole to know it, CLinton is just always making more excuses. The latest is just more dishonest spin from the spin-meister.

A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE:

They bomb pharmacies, don't they?

When Clinton really had to look "presidential" for a day, he simply launched cruise missiles against a sort of Arab version of Ken Starr.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

BY CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS, Slate.com, September 23, 1998

On Aug. 20, 1998, President Clinton personally ordered the leveling of the Al-Shifa pharmaceutical plant on the outskirts of Khartoum. More or less simultaneously, another flight of cruise missiles was dropped on various parts of Afghanistan and also -- who's counting? -- Pakistan, in an apparent effort to impress the vile Osama bin Laden. Bin Laden, of course, hopes to bring a "judgmental" monotheism of his own to bear on these United States, and is thus in some peoples' minds a sort of Arab version of Ken Starr.

Sources in U.S. Intelligence apparently claimed that there was only one "window" through which to strike at bin Laden, and that the only time they could hope to hit his Afghan fastness by this remote means was on the night of Monica Lewinsky's return to the grand jury....

On Aug. 20, 1998, President Clinton personally ordered the leveling of the Al-Shifa pharmaceutical plant on the outskirts of Khartoum.

Let's put this in context:

August 17, 1998: President Bill Clinton becomes the first sitting president to testify before a grand jury investigating his conduct. After the questioning at the White House is finished, Clinton goes on national TV to admit he had an inappropriate relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

August 19, 1998: Word that Starr has requested and received a sample of Clinton's DNA becomes public.

August 20, 1998: Monica Lewinsky testifies before the grand jury for a second time.

Also:

December 12, 1998: The House Judiciary Committee approves a fourth and final article of impeachment against President Clinton, accusing him of making false statements in his answers to written questions from Congress. A Democratic proposal to censure Clinton instead goes down to defeat.

December 15, 1998: In a blow to White House hopes, 11 moderate House Republicans announce they will vote to impeach the president.

December 16, 1998: In a coordinated strike, U.S. and British forces attack Iraq in retaliation for its failure to cooperate with U.N. weapons inspectors. Because of the military action, House Republican leaders delay a planned impeachment debate and vote set to begin Thursday, December 17
