Bush's Break from Reality (Cindy Sheehan Barf Alert)
Madison.com ^ | August 15, 2005 | Uncredited Editorial

Posted on 08/15/2005 7:03:23 PM PDT by Diana in Wisconsin

George Bush is on vacation in Crawford, Texas, taking the same August-long break that he did in the summer before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The appeal of Crawford appears to be that it provides the president with an opportunity to put aside all the troubles of the world and to focus on fixing fences and clearing brush. After all, it was during his previous vacation that Bush ignored an Aug. 6, 2001, briefing document titled: "Bin Laden determined to attack inside the U.S."

Bush's inner circle, a collection of neoconservative ideologues with an agenda of their own rather than an interest in what is best for the United States, made no effort in 2001 to steer the president's attention toward pressing matters of national security. And they remain determined to keep the woefully disengaged chief executive focused on busywork around the ranch rather than on how this country should position itself in a complex and dangerous world.

But, this summer, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq named Cindy Sheehan is making it harder for Bush to ignore the truth that his decisions have led to the unnecessary deaths of more than 1,800 Americans, and tens of thousands of Iraqis, while making both the U.S. and Iraq more vulnerable to violence.

Sheehan's 24-year-old son, Army Spc. Casey A. Sheehan, died on April 4, 2004 - almost a year after Bush dressed up in a flight suit to appear before a banner that declared "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq. Sheehan mourned, as any mother would. But then she organized, helping to found Gold Star Families for Peace, comprising relatives of soldiers killed in Iraq who are demanding an end to the ill-fated occupation of that land and a redirection of U.S. policy to achieve real security - as opposed to neoconservative misadventuring.

On Aug. 3, Bush made two statements about the mounting death toll in Iraq:

1. "We have to honor the sacrifices of the fallen by completing the mission."

2. "The families of the fallen can be assured that they died for a noble cause."

Sheehan correctly identified Bush's words as "asinine and hurtful." And she headed for Crawford to try to confront the president on the Aug. 6 anniversary of that neglected memorandum on bin Laden's intentions. She carried two messages of her own:

1. "We want our loved ones' sacrifices to be honored by bringing our nation's sons and daughters home from the travesty that is Iraq immediately, since this war is based on horrendous lies and deceptions. Just because our children are dead, why would we want any more families to suffer the same pain and devastation that we are?"

2. "We would like for him to explain this 'noble cause' to us and ask him why (presidential daughters) Jenna and Barbara are not in harm's way, if the cause is so noble."

Sheehan's bottom line, and that of Gold Star Families for Peace, is a blunt truth that the president has failed to consider: The best way to honor the sacrifices of those who have died in Iraq is to end the occupation and bring the troops home now.

So far, the president has refused to listen to Cindy Sheehan, who says, "The sound I do want to hear is the sound of a nation waking up."

That sound is starting to vibrate across the nation. In the latest Gallup/CNN/USA Today poll, 54 percent of Americans surveyed said the U.S. made a mistake in sending troops to Iraq. That number is up eight points from July. Fifty-one percent of those surveyed said the Bush administration deliberately misled the public about the reasons for going to war. Fifty-eight percent said that, no matter how long U.S. troops remain in Iraq, they will not be able to establish a stable, democratic government there.

George Bush has been listening for too long to Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Condi Rice. He should take a real vacation from the neocon fantasy factory of his misguided aides and sit down with someone who can introduce him to the reality of what is going on in Iraq and the world. The president should meet with Cindy Sheehan. And he should listen to this woman who has sacrificed more than he or anyone in his inner circle ever has for America.

"That sound is starting to vibrate across the nation."

Really? I think not. It may be vibrating across the 100 TRAITORS that are camping with this Media Misfit, but most of America thinks differently.

I hate these people. I used to abide them, ignore them, laugh at them, pity them...whatever.

Now, I seriously hate them. Moreso everyday.

What an incredible lie..every President since Eisenhower has received intelligence that evildoers want to crash jetliners into tall buildings in our country..these sleazebags know they are lying..but try to convince the "drive-by" news consumer that they are peddling "truth"..disgusting..

Just some questions I want to pose to this person.

When is a President really on vacation anyways? All that the memo said was that Bin Laden wanted to attack within the United States? Hasn't the government known that for a long time prior? What did Clinton do before 2001? Hasn't this woman already met with the President? When do I get to meet with him to discuss immigration?

Ive also had it with these so called ''peace demonstrators.''. I remember the Republican convention when this same group of people were out on the streets beating up police , spitting on Republicans, and burning our flag and laughing about it. These people are evil, vicious and full of it! They are hypocrites! I think this women is thriving on all the attention she is getting, she finally feels she has a life. Too bad it took the death of her noble, precious son to give her one.

Good Lord!  What kind of moron actually believes that President Bush, or for that matter any president, is truly on a vacation where he can forget his job etc. like the rest of us do when on vacation?

All my life I measured my speaking by the phrase "better to remain quite and thought stupid, then to open my mouth and remove all doubt."

It seems both the MSM and liberal loonys have forgotten.

Madison, Wisconsin. Say no more.

Now there's a place in serious danger from Islamofascist terrorist attack. They wouldn't know a Muslim terrorist if it bit them on their little sissy butts.

The tedious sameness with which these people drone on. Virtually every statement in the first half of the article is an easily provable lie. Believing in their own lies and pretending they somehow are privy to the truth in "the reality of what is going on in Iraq and the world" is absurd. Asinine best describes this whole lunatic faction's world view, as even mainstream Democrats cannot warm up to their agenda without alienating most of the country, and relegating themselves to the out limits of the leftist fringe. Yet they are encouraged by the spiderweb thin hope that somehow fickle poll numbers will buoy their anti-American nihilistic cause. Bush isn't running for President again, and they aren't in touch with what the rest of us call "reality."

To All the FReepers who wish they could have been in Crawford
to support President Bush and the Troops.

You do not have to be in Texas to show support for the Troops.

Visit your local military base today and at least once a week.

Or a military or veteran hospital.

Learn to play offense, not defense,
and quit giving free publicity to those who mock our troops.

Spineless US Senate would rather protect Hanoi Kerry
than deal with the anti war crowd.

Anyone who thinks Hanoi Kerry isn't behind the anti war crowd needs to get a clue.

It's time to support our troops and ignore the jelly fish in the US Senate!

There is no need to impeach Hanoi Kerry from the US Senate

He is there illegally!

WAKEUP AMERICA!

For those who "forgot" what Hanoi Kerry
did in the past read on and learn the truth.

Hanoi Kerry was still a USNR officer while he:
gave false hearsay testimony to Congress
negotiated with the enemy
helped the US lose a war
abetted in the deaths of millions
created a hostile environment for all servicemen

Why is Kerry still in the US Senate?
This is in violation of
U.S. Constitution Amendment 14 Sec 3
http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.amendmentxiv.html

And the FBI has proof of his treason.

I agree with your assessment of the wackos in Crawford. Personally, I think instead of exploiting that woman's grief, they should get her some help. Obviously, she has had some sort of breakdown.
Hopefully, this will make everyone feel better: we need those nutcases outside of the President's ranch. We need them because the average American thinks they're as crazy as we do. They are the face of the opposition; not the well reasoned, thoughful opposition. The opposition they represent is the insane, hate everyone, against all things American. Thanks to the sympathetic MSM, they won't learn that being a rebel also usually means you're in the minority.
That's the reasoning I use to get me through the days of craziness!

I hate those like Michael Moore who deny that the people fighting in Iraq are terrorists and wishes to see America defeated, with no nations keeping us from this bloody fate.

I hate Axis Sally and Lord Haw Haw too.

There is a word for them. Traitor. Axis Sally and Lord Haw Haw were both convicted after WWII. England hanged Haw Haw.

I hate those who side with such scumbags too.

I do not use the word hate lightly. Most of the protestors are simply useful idiots. The leaders and speakers are more deliberate in their vile speech and actions.

As Gore, Dean, Kerry, Baldwin, Streisand and others have shown us, liberalism is a mental disease and breakdowns seem to be quite common.

Zogby's election day polls said Bush would lose.

Poll numbers are nothing but Bullzogby used by the press to push the day's agenda.

This story is already boring as hell. It will burn out by next week this time. Some lunatic Mommie Dearest for the demoRATS sits in the ditch and whines crocodile tears for a son she was ideologically opposed to. The Real story here is that Casey and Cindy were polar opposites.

Have to wonder how many of these protesters are using their "vacation" time to leave their jobs to protest.

Oh, one can be active while on vacation? Fancy that.

Liberal stories are never about the facts. They are about the agenda and emotions. Run with the talking points until the story falls apart and then move onto the next propaganda piece.

Talking about the facts of the case (pro and con) is too distracting from the day's talking points.

She already met with him last year?
There's a photo of her receiving a kiss on the cheek from him?
Her family has been torn apart by her protesting activities and wants her to come home to her surviving children?
I've read but have not seen confirmation that she would not call her son.
She stands in photos along side Michael Moore at her protest vigil. Michael Moore has clearly thrown his support to the men who killed her son. She is a useful idiot, as Stalin would say.

They aren't peace protesters. That would indicate that they vowed non-violence. They riot too often for that.

They aren't anti-war protesters either as to a man, they always support the Palestinian war against Israel. Some will even openly support the use of homicide bombers "they are using the only weapons they have, sob, their bodies!"
