FAMILY OF FALLEN SOLDIER PLEADS: PLEASE STOP, CINDY! Thu Aug 11 2005 12:56:21 ET

The family of American soldier Casey Sheehan, who was killed in Iraq on April 4, 2004, has broken its silence and spoken out against his mother Cindy Sheehan's anti-war vigil against George Bush held outside the president's Crawford, Texas ranch.

The following email was received by the DRUDGE REPORT from Casey's aunt and godmother:

Our family has been so distressed by the recent activities of Cindy we are breaking our silence and we have collectively written a statement for release. Feel free to distribute it as you wish. Thanks Ð Cherie

In response to questions regarding the Cindy Sheehan/Crawford Texas issue: Sheehan Family Statement:

The Sheehan Family lost our beloved Casey in the Iraq War and we have been silently, respectfully grieving. We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She now appears to be promoting her own personal agenda and notoriety at the the expense of her son's good name and reputation. The rest of the Sheehan Family supports the troops, our country, and our President, silently, with prayer and respect.

Sincerely,

Casey Sheehan's grandparents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

She probably is mentally unhinged. If my wife or I were to lose one of our children, there's no telling how deeply our respective mental states might sink.

This said she was a catholic youth minister. What does the term "minister" mean in the catholic church? It doesn't mean ordained, does it?

The only "ugliness" I'd like to see out of this is the egg on the faces of the MSM for elevating this fraud to the level of saint. She told a totally different story about her meeting with the President than the one she is telling now. I'm pretty much convinced that she cares less about the loss of her son than she does about getting a little more face-time on the next news report.

Agreed. She's in a word, damaged, and she's being taken advantage of. I'm not grokking all of this naked hatred towards this obviously unstable woman.

I think it is funny that DU deletes posts of news they don't like. I guess that's part of being in the "reality based" universe.

Thank you for finding that for me, Mo1. That is where I heard those words ("a family of one")...it was on O'Reilly so it was that other woman that said it. I remember thinking to myself how sadly ignorant she was about the war and everything else to do with this War on Terror. Some folks just don't get it, can't get it, or don't want to get it.

As it happens, I don't tend to have much sympathy for "difficult childhoods" when they try to use it to explain their antisocial behavior. Every one of us will suffer a loss of a loved one in our lifetime--most, however, will not use it as an excuse to be a jerk.

She's not going to stop. She's a celebrity.

Yep, fame is a very powerful drug and this woman is now hooked.  I don't think she even cares anymore about her son, it's all about face-time now.

You're right, and Mo1 found the thread and clued me in. After giving it some thought, Cindy wouldn't qualify as a "Family of One" now that she has Michael Moore and the big loony liberal family adopting her. Sad, but true.

I feel so sorry for Casey and his memory.

That's the saddest thing coming out of all this.  Her son is no longer the issue, if it ever was.  Soon people will not even remember her son, the hero, they'll only remember this skinny shrew and her mouth.

Now, truer words than that were never spoken. This woman obviously needs mental help, and someone in her family should be trying to get it for her.

The left is using her and she is in no emotional condition to realize it.  These people have no shame.

You're right, it was the woman on O'Reilly last night that referred to herself as the "Family of One". Other FRiends have pointed that out to me and I do thank you all for responding to me. I wonder how long it will take the woman from last night to join Cindy in her new "career".

The woman on O'Reilly last night was irritating in her ignorance and the way she tried to act like Bush wasn't sincere. I felt she was trying to twist the facts, using inuendo, without coming right out with a bold-faced lie.

God willing, I will never lose a child. The Chinese have a saying: The white haired people should never see the black haired people die. I've lost both of my parents, and while that's tough, it's the natural order of things. One day my children will lose me. Losing a child is a whole 'nother story.

My grandmother lost one of her sons (one of my uncles) in WWII and never joined with the Japanese to berate the President and the war. Her heart was just as broken, but she had both integrity and character, something this woman lacks.

Is there not someone in her life to speak with her? A church pastor or something to help her understand the 'show' she has turned this all into.

This week on Monday at the IX Center in Cleveland, we mourned the loss of our Marines. And it hurts, today another one was laid to rest, and it hurts.

This ladies antics demean these heroes. And it hurts.

My nephew came home from Iraq in June, alive. He had served in all that which was expected of him and then some. Sunday he called to tell us he had volunteered to go back and his specialized training begins in a week to prepare to return to Iraq. May God Bless Him and Keep Him Safe.

Cindy's antics devalue his honor and her son's. Grief takes on many forms and moves at it's own pace. She may very well be angry right now and that is part of the normal stage of grief. What is wrong is the left and the media are taking advantage of this woman, she could not find comfort in her church, and perhaps her family. So a vulnerable grieving mother finds comfort in those who will fuel her anger, misdirect her, and abuse her. So very sad, so very sad.
