As part of a package of "urgent wartime support initiatives," the Defense Department has requested that Congress raise the maximum age for military recruits to 42 for all branches of the service.

I'm 43 in September...
I'd investigate re-upping...

Didn't the WW-II draft reach up to 45?
"Under current law, the maximum age to enlist in the
active components is 35, while people up to age 39
may enlist in the reserves. By practice, the accepted
age for recruits is 27 for the Air Force, 28 for the
Marine Corps and 34 for the Navy and Army, although
the Army Reserve and Navy Reserve sometimes take
people up to age 39 in some specialties, the report
stated."
Steve0113 says if I can find a branch to take me I can go...
Ping me when they let 62 yr old women in pretty sorry shape sign up. I will be first in line to protect my grandchildrens' freedom.
Surely there is something I could do?
Hell, I am 66, but if needed to sweep floors or pull KP, I am still capable of doing such if it will free up men & women needed elsewhere. I could also pull the trigger if push comes to shove.
They must be getting tired of telling potential recruits they are too old to join.
Surely. But there are other ways to serve other than "in uniform". You could go to work for one of the services as s civilian civil servant, some of those even deploy. You could go to work for one of their contractors. Those do direct support, and of course also supply the beans, bombs, and bullets required to prosecute the war. IOW, you could become a modern, high tech, version of Rosie the Riveter.
Hmmm...sounds good. I think the pinch test to stay off the fat boy program may be less forgiving this time around.
I'm pushing 48. If they up it to 50 (or 48) I'll join the reserves tomorrow.
Geez, get it to 49 and I am back in the US Marine Corps (sorry honey)
To expand on my comment: I truly want to do something tangible to support the cause and defend our civilization against the Islamic barbarians. If I can't shoot the bastards, let me do something to directly support the guys doing the shooting. BTW, my son begins Marine Corps basic on September 6.
..."Ask not, what can your country do for you, ask what you can do for your country"
Nothing wrong with that. 40-somethings have a wealth of experience to bring to the table.
Anybody and everybody that works and pays taxes, which pay for the war, is in essence serving and contributing................
