A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

What if it were really true? What if you woke up one day and money really were no object? How would you change your life? Would your life change? Would it be better? Worse? Can money really buy happiness?
Let's *play like* today (and tomorrow) we can have absolutely anything in the world that money can buy. Money's no object. What would you buy? Pretend we've already saved the world with our vast wealth, and now we're ready to spend it foolishly and selfishly. :)

Vacation around the world
You have a summer home, a winter home, a beach house, a bungalow in the mountains.... You travel to exotic, faraway places and stay in nothing but 5 star hotels and resorts.
AND...of course, only the best tables... in the very finest restaurants will do.

What an odd thing to say, unless he was just encouraging you to be the best you can be and not settle for anything less than that. He was a former Marine Drill Instructor and also my swimming coach. He believed in MOTIVATING. LOL

Walking Away
My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Exodus 33:14
|
After winning a bronze medal in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, wrestler Rulon Gardner took off his shoes, placed them in the center of the mat, and walked away in tears. Through that symbolic act, Gardner announced his retirement from the sport which had defined his life for many years. Times of walking away come to all of us, and they can be emotionally wrenching. A loved one "walks away" in death. A child moves away from home. We leave a job or a community and it feels as if we've left everything behind. But when we know the Lord, we never have to walk into an unknown future alone. It's worth pausing to reflect on how much the children of Israel walked away from when Moses led them out of Egypt. They left the heavy burden of slavery, but they also left everything stable and predictable they had ever known. Later, when the Lord told Moses, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest" (Exodus 33:14), Moses replied, "If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here" (v.15). During our most difficult times, our stability comes from the presence and peace of God. Because He goes with us, we can walk into the future with confidence. David McCasland
I never walk alone, Christ walks beside me, He is the dearest Friend I've ever known; With such a Friend to comfort and to guide me, I never, no, I never walk alone. Ackley © 1952, The Rodeheaver Company
Every loss leaves a space that only God's presence can fill.

Good morning, Mayor, and all the Finest.
I like what you said in post #196 of this thread:
"...life is built on dreams and Faith in Christ."
So very true!
Have a very fine day--

Thanks. It's very much like wrestling, but the object is not to pin the opponent but rather to apply a joint lock or a choke which causes them to "submit". It's more like a cross between Judo and wrestling than anything else.
No significance to the color of the outfits. I happened to wear a blue "gi" (pronounced gee) that day and my opponent wore white.
I won that match on points and a few others, lost some too. I ended up 3-3 that weekend.

This whole USA country was hardly big enough for this baby:
The space shuttle Discovery glided back to Earth to a pre-dawn landing in the Mojave desert today, nearly 14 days after its 5.8-million-mile journey began.
After a one-day delay and a shift in plans from the East Coast to the West, the shuttle Discovery landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California Tuesday at 8:11:22 a.m. Eastern time.

Good morning, Rammer. Thanks for the photos and info on Jiu Jitsu.
This gives me a perfect opportunity to show off my grandson, Gage, and his mother in their gis (gi's? gis'? LOL. Whatever.)
They are practicing karate. This is when they first started. They have both advanced a couple of belts since this was taken.
You're in NC? My favorite niece lives in Charlotte, visited her there last summer. :-)
You have a great day, Rammer!
