A Different Version of a Military Family Meeting with President Bush-Vanity

Edited on 08/08/2005 7:40:36 PM PDT by Admin Moderator. [history]

After reading multiple posts related to a certain individual flip flopping about our President's demeanor when meeting with families who have lost a loved one at war, I have decided it is time to post a vanity about meeting our President.

If anyone has had a similar experience please feel free to post your experience also. It may be helpful to go on the record and put how our President really treats Military Families.

My husband and I both had the honor to meet Air Force One and shake hands with the President last year on Earth Day. He took time to talk with each individual that was allowed to on the tarmac. He spent just a brief few minutes with my husband and I but our meeting was entirely different from what Ms. Sheehan describes.

The first big difference is that he knew our names and the names of all three of our sons serving. When I shook hands with him he had a big friendly smile on his face. He then kept my hand and held my hand with both of his. He stated that he knew the last year had been rough and that he hopes we understand just how important our son's duty and our support meant to our country. When he spoke about hard times he wasn't jovial at that point but very serious and very caring. I looked deep into our President's eyes and saw nothing but compassion for our family.

My husband thanked our President for taking a hit in the polls over speaking our against photographing our fallen troops arriving back into the US. The President stated that he was glad to take the hit in order to maintain privacy.

After our brief meeting we were then allowed to ride in the motorcade to the reserve for the speech. Our son in the Marine corp was already at the reserve.

Our meeting with him was pointed out in his speech and he asked for my son to stand up. He then gave my son an order to tell his brothers that applause at this event was not just to him but for them too. My son acknowledged the order with a salute which the President returned. Note. Mom couldn't see well by then.

After the speech we were then allowed to ride back to the airport in the motorcade. You just don't know how tempting it is to make a big L sign on your forehead to protestors riding behind the President!

If our President is this compassionate meeting with a family who hasn't lost a loved one, Ms. Sheehan's version of his behavior makes no logical sense.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and your sons with us.

You are correct believing in the importance of getting the "other side" of the story out.

Mom couldn't see well by then.
I couldn't see very well by the time I arrived at this section of you post. God Bless your family and sending continued prayers for your wonderful sons.

What a treat for you to be able to meet President Bush. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Your sons are fortunate to have parents who honor their service. I'll never understand parents who spit on their children's graves to promote a misguided agenda. Thank your sons for their service, and thank you for helping to make that service count for something important.

She puts military families in the uncomfortable position of speaking out against a person who has suffered a terrible loss. Like it or not we need to go ahead and speak up.

Keep in mind that she is dishonoring her son and that he would be ashamed of her. You are correcting that injustice which, in turn, honors her son for her.

my uncle is an FBI agent and he got to meet the President with his family. The President shoot their hands and then my little cousin says in a loud voice:
"Do you know what Mr. President? We have something alike."
President: "Oh, we do?"
My Cousin: I was born in Connecticut just like you were."
President: "Oh,I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me that son."

Anyways, thank your son for their great service and thanks for sharing the experience.

God Bless You, Your Sons, George Bush and the USA!

God bless the Sheehan woman too!

However, this woman has me steaming mad! She is denigating her son's sacrifice and nobility. She is helping our enemies her son fought. She is fueling the fires of our internal enemies also. Did I hear right that she said completely opposite things re: meeting Bush right afterwards than what she's saying now? She's lying and is now a pawn for the anti-war movement. I hate to say something bad about a mother who gave her son for this most noble of causes, but I believe she's getting paid for this. How can she say Bush killed her son. Terrorists did! I heard her son's father said the son joined enthusiastically and believed in the cause - contrary to her statement.

THANK YOU for your post! You are right that the world needs to hear more stories like yours!

Thanks for sharing your meeting with the president. I knew that other families did not experience what this war protester says happened to her.(I don't believe her anyway) I hope other families feel comfortable coming forward and speaking the truth about the president and their meetings with him. She must be exposed for the liar she is.

God bless you and your sons armymarinemom. The whole story about Sheehan stinks. I'm sorry she lost her son but she's letting herself be used. We had two sons over there when the war kicked off. One in the reserves but serving with the 101st in Mosul and another flying in B-1's and for her to disrepect their service makes Mrs ladtx and I furious. Thanks for the story.

Thank you for starting this thread....but most of all thank you for sharing your three sons with our country. I know these families who have lost their sons and daughters deserve a lot better than the rhetoric Cindy Sheehan is spewing all over the media. We need to keep alive the true spirit of our military and the job they do and your story is perfect example of what needs to be out there for all to hear.
Thank you again and God Bless you and your family.......

Fantastic post. Thanks for sharing it. I too met the President years ago, as he campaigned, and had my picture taken with him. It was not military-related, but he was very warm and direct, and made me feel very special, returning my compliment, when I rather gushed and told him how excited I was to meet him. He seemed truly grateful to all of us for coming to see him. He was "folks."

Wow! WOW!!! Thank you for sharing this incredible experience armymarinemom!!

Those of us military families who actually SUPPORT the military know exactly how this Commander in Chief feels about the sacrifice of his troops, and know that this woman is a horrible liar, using her son to make a leftist political point.

And anyone else watching knows how he feels too.......

Thanks again, armymarinemom!

If we don't give awards for best vanity, maybe we should start. That was the most touching story I've read in ages. The pics are great too. God bless your sons.
