Florida Supreme Court Helped to Fund ACLU
Center For Reclaiming America ^ | Thursday, July 07, 2005 | Sam Kastensmidt

The Center for Reclaiming America for Christ has uncovered documents revealing that the Florida Supreme Court is responsible for helping to fund the ACLU of Florida — using interest from legal trust funds generated by unsuspecting home buyers, heirs, and legal awards and settlements. Between 1990 and 1997, the Florida Bar Foundation (FBF), a creation of the Florida Supreme Court, provided more than $600,000 to help pay the salary of the ACLU of Florida’s legal director.

Incredibly, the Florida Supreme Court approved these appropriations, despite the fact that the Court often issues rulings in cases argued by the ACLU’s legal director. One would assume that such funding would create a conflict of interest — but not in the eyes of the Court. In a letter faxed to the Center, the FBF admitted that every instance in which it offered funding to the ACLU of Florida, it was “specifically approved from time to time by the Supreme Court of Florida.”

The Mechanics of IOTA Accounts

This is further evidence of the Court’s skewed ideological agenda. In 1956, the Florida Bar Foundation was established by the Florida Supreme Court in order to provide legal assistance to the poor. Sadly, at least in this case, the Court used the funds of unsuspecting Floridians to promote a radical ideological agenda.

In 1981, in an effort to increase the level of funding for the Foundation, the Florida High Court adopted the nation’s first IOTA (interest on trust account) program. Under the IOTA program, all monies that change hands via an attorney (i.e. home purchases, lawsuit awards, probate accounts, divorce settlements, etc.) are to be temporarily deposited in a pooled interest-bearing account. Chances are: If you settled a lawsuit, inherited money,...

Would you like me to post your idea on my website? Why didn't you just ask?

I've emailed O'Reilly with so much stuff, and he always ignores me. Maybe if enough of us freepers were to email him this he might report on it?

I'm sorry, I was taken with the idea of e-mailing a Congressman and got distracted :-)

Please, by all means, go ahead. Just reference it to grey_whiskers at FreeRepublic.com.

Cheers!

Talk about a conflict of interest. What a bunch of Gore loving commies.

ACLU is a corrupt organization that bullies and extorts small communities and others with limited funds. It has supported pedophiles. And it fights everything that supports development of good character. I could be wrong, but seems one of the cases was in Florida where it fought (and allegedly won) a case against the National Honor Society for daring to consider "character" as part of requirement for membership.

ACLU has become so outrageous in its actions that it needs to be investigated.

O' Reilly has Florida's number. Did you know that the exhibit "Bodies" is at the MOSI museum in Tampa for six months? The donated bodies weren't really donated at all because they are all from China. And, the premise is that these bodies were "unclaimed". Highly unlikely considering that the have a ballet dancer, a soccer player and another man who looks like he was running away when he was struck down.

Florida is a sick place and our tax dollars are paying for it. Dr. Mengela made victims into lampshades, why not China turning them into exhibits?

Bodies, the exhibit is next door to where Sami Al Arian taught at USF and he's now on trial in Tampa Federal Court.

George Soros, the ACLU, atheists of Florida, and scientology mixes with the GOP in Florida which gives "red state" a completely different interpretation.

Even Jeb's appointees are lefties but Cantero the lefty got in the Fla Supremes because he's hispanic and the GOP is always working on expanding their base in the hispanic community. Mostly everything the Bush brothers do is for political purposes.

There's another anti-ACLU org that is telemarketing. I'd rather put a freeper's link on my web page any day.

O' Reilly also DESPISES the St. Pete Times. (I concur and get the Tampa Tribune instead although they are a little flaky too. At least I don't get ill every day after I read the Tampa Tribune.)

The pennies collected are supposed to go to "public education" and "public works".

It is not supposed to go to fund communist organizations.

If I'm not mistaken, I remember a group of lawyers who either did challenge or were going to challenge the constitutionality of IOTA accounts on free speech grounds, I think.

Anyone know how that turned out?

Jeb is going to appoint 51 judges this year.

The problem is that the pool of potential judges is dominated by left leaning lawyers and lawyers who pay money to democrat causes.

We finally got the nominations for judges changed it is just that change in the "law culture" is slooooooooooow.
