Just more nonsense from pencil pushers. Those folks claim that DST saves energy because people don't turn on the lights as early at night. But, with modern (ie post WWII) home designs the lights are apt to be on whenever anyone is home. And businesses often run the lights 24 hr/day because the cost of replacement is more than the cost of electricity, and as long as they stay on they tend to continue working. Chalk this up to social engineering, not conservation.

"Damn. I thought we had 8000 years before we would face another Y*K problem. Well, better stock up on batteries, ammunition and potable water again." My mom has a bunch of huge water drum containers, a generator and hundreds of cans of tuna and lord-only-knows how many rolls of toilet paper left over if you want to buy it from Y2K her. It has always amazed me that Micro$loth does not allow the user to specify the date and time when DST, if observed, starts and ends.
