See the Butcher's Commentary.
This isn't just a good-natured poke at Microsoft.

I certainly have a hard time swallowing that MS would do something as STUPID as is alleged here. They would cut off their own legs. I for one would not touch their new system, and would stick with Win2K, WinXP and Linux. Bye-bye and new MS creation.
No, just cannot buy it. MS's wealth is dependent upon selling operating systems. If their arrogance has gone this far, their stock value will show it immediately upon release...

Microsoft will, eventually, produce its "Edsel". Perhaps this is it, perhaps not. Regardless, Microsoft just doesn't see the handwriting on the wall of "open source". Eventually, Microsoft will only be a footnote in the history of electronic communications and Bill Gates future ancestors will be paupers. It's the history of business.

I'm not buying this "commentary" either. Did you check out the supporting links? It's been a known quantity that Microsoft has chummed up to the MPAA and RIAA. The statements made in the articles linked from the commentary are legit.

Besides, if you think that Microsoft won't sell its soul to make a buck, just check out what they did to accommodate the Communist Chinese government.

Just another incentive to get serious about switching to Linux.
Honestly, if MS makes itself any more intrusive, and harder to use, there's no reason to keep using it.

Gates must be stranger than I thought, there has never been anyone else who could have "future ancestors".

Gates must be stranger than I thought, there has never been anyone else who could have "future ancestors".You're right, poor choice of words. I can only blame it on using "Word" to compose my replies. Perhaps "descendants" is a better choice. I tried to argue with the little "paperclip", but it wouldn't respond.

Win 98 was a far better and more widely used product than ME could ever hope to be.

The "will not work with current computer hardware, nor monitors" is enough to kill interest in Windows Vista, the DRM programs are just icing on the cake.

I'm not buying this "commentary" either. MS is not dumb. They didn't get to be the largest by abusing customers or producing a product that no one wants. What happens when Microsoft decides to leak just enough details of its internal workings to allow people to write malware that takes advantage of undocumented behaviors, but not enough details to stop them? So the only way to run a safe system will be to either downgrade to 98 or upgrade to Vista?

Hacker love challeges, they would prefer to go up against Windows Vista that older OS's because it is the newest OS on the block.
