Roberts did not mention his work on the case in responding to a Senate Judiciary Committee questionnaire that asked for examples of his pro bono work. Roberts' involvement was first reported Wednesday by the Los Angeles Times.
Jean Dubofsky, the lead lawyer for gay rights activists challenging the Colorado initiative, told The Times that Roberts gave her "absolutely crucial" advice on how to argue the case before the Supreme Court.
White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Roberts spent less than 10 hours on the case, compared with more than 200 hours he spent on two pro bono cases on which he was the lead counsel

Levin orginally approved Roberts unconditionally and openly disagreed with Coulter's analysis.
Last night he said Roberts pro bono work on that homosexual case sent up a "small red flag".
I don't think the Counrty could take another Souter on the bench and we certainly deserve better than another Souter from a Prsident we have so loyally supported.
We need to keep a close watch on this.
Are you from the Democratic Underground?
How could it possibly be in President Bush's best interest to LIE to YOU?
Do you honestly think it his goal to put a liberal on the Court?
Do you think he did not learn the Sununu/Souter Lesson?
Do you think he does not have a least one or two people on his staff smart enough to find a confirmable conservative Judge to put on the court?
What is that they say about opinions? Everyone's got one.. :-)
Thank you very much for the info. I need to find a stream for his show.
Well said.
No social conservative would EVER work to promote such a morally evil cause as to protect homosexual "rights." And certainly not pro bono.
I hope Souter enjoys Roberts' company on the court.
You have to realize that these are "billable hours" (or timesheet hours) many of which are flat rate billing for reviewing of documents and research and review of letters and sigining of letters and other time for which there is a minimum billing. I would tend to think that 10 hours of Billable (or timesheet) hours probably translates into about 4 or 5 hours of ACTUAL time.
A lawyer died and arrived at the pearly gates. To his dismay, there were thousands of people ahead of him in line to see St. Peter. But, to his surprise, St. Peter left his desk at the gate and came down the long line to where the lawyer was standing. St. Peter greeted him warmly. Then St. Peter and one of his assistants took the lawyer by the hands and guided him up to the front of the line into a comfortable chair by his desk.
The lawyer said, "I don't mind all this attention, but what makes me so special?"
St. Peter replied, "Well, I've added up all the hours for which you billed your clients, and by my calculation you must be about 193 years old!"
For those who make the argument that he was just being a good lawyer doing his job. If he had volunteered to help out a pro-abortion group in a similar circumstance, would that have been okay too?
I hope Souter enjoys Roberts' company on the court.
Yeah that liberal Roberts working with Ken Starr is conservative heresy.
Do you all look for something to be miffed about everyday, such as if GW Bush has a hangnail.
He's on WABC in the east between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM EST.
Some of the elaborate justifications for a conservative doing voluntary work for a leftist cause are truly fascinating..
Thanks again!
And some "conservatives" taking the LA Times as the word of God, is equally fascinating.
Divide and conquer.
One day Judge Roberts is a far right wing-nut, the next day he is a leftie gay activist.
The NY Slimes going after his little children's adoption records is despicable. More despicable is the reason: they are blond. Not Hispanic enough.
Roberts will sail through with the usual blustering on the left and will be a formidable CONSERVATIVE Justice.
Intriguing ring.
Translation of inscription,please.
You're not supposed to post Daily Kos stuff here - not my rule.
A "pox" on them???
Hannity, Limbaugh, Levin and Coulter all have solid conservative track records, all supported Bush strongly and all apparently are anxious about ROberts.
Roberts is an unknown quantity. I trust the former four more than I trust Roberts, or even Bush, who gave us Gonzales, Minetta, Tennet, Freeh, Whitman, Powell, Ridge,
and Tom Kean (9-11 Commission Chairman).
