NO, I don't, and I actually called my daughter, whose house I had just left...but if I had, I wouldn't have cared...

She wanted me to get his license #, but I told her I didn't want to get close enough behind him, because the way he was acting, and with all of the traffic, I was afraid he would stomp on his brakes, and I would end up crashing into his rear end, and then get rear-ended myself...

I do know that I was not going to go much further W/O actually calling the police....when he saw me show him the cellphone, he hit the very next exit....whew!

I think you were wise to not prolong the incident any further than it needed to be. You are correct, if you had dropped in behind him, he could have done just what you feared. And then the cops would likely give you the ticket for rear-ending the perp.

The disease appears to affect people in a variety of ways. Some also have other mental illnesses. My former boss had paranoia. He thought everyone was out to get him...particularly his colleagues. The bad part was that, to some extent, he was right. He was in a highly competitive business and many of his colleagues were not above stealing or trying to steal his clients and anyone else's. When he would say that this partner or that partner was stealing his clients, I thought well, he may be right. But then it expanded to other people. Before long, he thought I was trying to do him harm too.

It took him a long time to actually get help. In the meantime, he had lost his job a couple of times and at one point, he was living with his sister. He now is kind of a guinea pig under this university study -- taking a lot of experimental drugs and trying other experimental therapy, but he seems to be doing well. He finally abandoned his career altogether (which was a good thing because it was stressful and apparently stress exacerbates the problems), now he lives on his own and he dabbles in writing (nothing much, but he has been published a few times). He lives very minimalistically, but he seems a lot happier than he has been in years. I pray he will continue to do so.

Yikes, that sounds horrible. Yeah, I live in L.A. and drive a good distance to and from work. Good rule of thumb: never look at the other party.

First off, I don't want to provoke them, I don't want to watch them yell or give me the finger, I don't want to get shot and I don't want to let them get a reaction out of me.

I even had a middle aged woman try to run me off the road a few years back. We've become barbarians!

No, he won't get off easy. There will, appropriately, be a lot of publicity about this case; the 10 month old infant guarantees that. Meanwhile, NOONE will be issued a handgun permit for the next 100 years. In most towns, the police chief is the issuing authority and they love having a defenseless public that they needn't worry about.

I hope he continues to do well too. My ex has this up and down thing and every time he does this 'get my life straightened out' thing, he ends up with more kids. He has 9 now. I think he is competing with some gangsta thugs for a record or something. He has been with his current wife for five years now, but he has had a child during one of his 'down times'. The thing I don't feel sorry for him. It took some therapy to remove myself from the codependant need to 'fix' him. I just walked away because some people just don't want to fix themselves.
