Breaking News from CFRB 1010AM News Radio - Toronto
Airliner on fire on the ground at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Unclear as to cause. Announcers asking for updates from motorists in the region on HWY 401. Report says great deal of smoke. I have to go into a meeting shortly but I'll listen for updates as long as I can.

>>> New FReeper Record! 73 posts before someone slips in Wild Ass Speculation about terrorism with no bases in fact.
This place is teaming with speculators...and they are compulsed to post every brain bubble they have.
This is the internet. If you can't have wild ass speculations here, where the hell are you supposed to have them?!
You throw down your theory and you take your chances. And nobody gets hurt.
what on earth are you talking about?
Casualties have been taken to area hospitals.
Number unknown.
C'mon guys...no name calling and ranting, huh? Might be some people here with family/friends on that plane. Not doing them any good by getting bitchy with one another.
MSNBC video feed is just reporters talking to producers...they have no idea they're being broadcast.
So THAT is why Rush named that song YYZ.
No news on other survivors.
For about 20 minutes FNC has been reporting survivors.
Five minutes ago, MSNBC said that most got off.
CNN finally, a minute ago, reported survivors.
I hear ya, I worked with the husband of the VAluejet crash, and the broter of the commander of the Columbia Space Shuttle crash.
Its not cool, thank god my airline never had a crash.
thank you news life
Thanks.
These take-off/landing crashes are my biggest fear. I'm listening to a caller now and it appears it might have been caused by lightening. I guess there's no escape when it's your time, but gosh, this is scary. I hate to travel anymore and I have to fly next week.
Per CNN witnesses no one seen leaving aircraft, but other report have casualties taken to local hospitals.
An unknown # of people have been taken to hospital. Picked up off the 401.
"Guy on news feed said the plane landed first and was then struck by lightening."
"This may be a planned distraction to draw attention away from the issue of whether Karl Rove slipped some steriods into Rafael Palmiero's drink."
Ok, does anyone know yet which came first..... the takeoff, the landing, the lightning bolt, all four tires being blown out, OR Karl Rove spiking Palmiero's drink with steroids.....?? I'm just getting way too confused... : )
I'm kinda skeptical of the witness on CNN. Some of his statements sounded like he was simply watching TV while being interviewed, but claims to have been parked in a car on the freeway shoulder watching planes coming in. Said the police were asking him to leave when a police car rolled by where he claimed he was (2 cars back of a white van), but there was no sirens or loudspeakers heard in the background while he was talking. So who knows right now.
Newsweek?
Debbie Wilkes (an eyewitness): I was traveling along (Highway) 401. Approaching west end of runway, watching storm unfold, moving very slowly, saw a fork of lightening strike down and hit something; there was a thick billowing smoke. We then noticed what had been hit was a plane. People pulling over to the side of the highway -- 2 or 3 cars. Pouring rain. People running out of their cars, assuming trying to get over the fence to help. Those on the slow lane trying to pull over and help. I did not see any flames engulf the airplane; I only saw smoke."
