"Electric Bong" was one of a number of household devices that security researcher Johnny Long came across when he found an unprotected Web interface to someone's household electrical network. To the right of each item were two control buttons, one labelled "on," the other, "off."

My take: this is just nonsensical Fear, Uncertainly and Doubt (FUD) mongering.

The pages are public. Google's cached them. BFD. If there wasn't Google caching, an attacker could use any number of overseas anonymous web proxies to survey an intented victim network. Big deal.

It came from Yahoo news. Could it be an attempt to get people to switch from Google to Yahoo?

If I had Internet control over a random electric bong somewhere I would be having a lot of fun with it.

"An electric bong?"

Yeah ... what's up with that? You suppose you will get an overdose if there is an electrical surge?

Google is a great search engine. It's also extremely far-left. Case in point: search for "failure." See what comes up first (hat tip to LGF).

Also see what comes up second. I guess they may be balanced to a certain degree after all.

That's not bias that's tagging. You can make your site go higher up in search engine results by burying words in the hidden text of the page (or even in the visible text, or even in the HREF description of things that link to the page). There was a concerted effort by DU during the election to associate the words "failure" and "miserable" to President Bush through these techniques. A few FReepers did a counter run to beat on Michael Moore. Search engines can be manipulated if you're willing to put the work into it porn sites have been doing it since before Google, that's what this is an exampe of.
