Yes.. having been married to a native North Carolinian for 25 years - and having lived there myself for 12 I can guarantee it's VERY southern in it's culture... laugh.

Maryland - no way -

As to Louisiana - don't know about Carribean it's kind of a culture to itself dontcha think? ;-)

Of course I'm in Texas now - and as they say... it's a whole 'nother country... hahaha

Even most North Carolinian's would agree that Ashville is "out there" .. I'm sure you can find those pockets in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi too.. it's an "artsy fartsy" place... somewhere I've read whole discussions regarding Ashville and it's "nature"...

No, the post I responded to was ridiculous. NSNR, I am surprised, you are too smart to not take the time to research what I was responding to so I will do it for you.

"Natalee and her friends live in a far safer, more innocent place."

You are kidding right? Ever been to Birmingham, Detroit, LA, NYC, Cleveland, Baltimore, Miami, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Chicago, shall I continue? Ever hear of Dru Sjorgen? How about the little girl in Florida buried alive with her stuffed animal? The list is endless and it leaves me speechless. Any girl who lives in the US and is unaware that the game has changed is living under a rock.

"However, when the girls go to Aruba, they have no way of realizing that they have just entered a much much darker, far more sinister, atmosphere, where young women are stalked and preyed upon."

This is just too much.

I could almost swear a FReeper had suggested in an early thread that Natalee may have thought she was getting into a cab. May turn out to have been right on target.

Yes, Mjaye - apparently, at least some of the cabs are just regular cars with a sign in the front or back window saying "cab" or something, and the license plate is marked differently. My impression was that there are no big signs saying "Yellow Cab" (or the Aruban equivalent) with a light on top and that all of the "taxis" are just regular cars. Would be very easy to think that a car taken so well care of, like Deepak is said to have taken such good care of his, would be one of these "taxis."

TexKat...maybe that is why Deepak took such good care of his car...the better to be understood by unwary tourists as a legitimate cab. His mother said he didn't park it at work because he didn't want to get it dinged and that is why Satish would drop him off at work and pick him up. Seems like a lot of work to prevent a ding...couldn't he just park it out of the way a bit or was there no room in the lot or nearby? Maybe the ding story isn't the whole story with respect to the car....

Obviously the brother had some info on C & C. A week may be too long for unstructured, unsupervised, high shcool kids, on an exotic island like Aruba.

Tito said the judge has issue a warrant for T. J. Ward because he does not have a permit in order to be working on the island.

And, don't forget all the commotion about Texas Equusearch disturbing the turtle egg hatchery. Aruban authorities got bent all out of shape about that assault on their precious territory and, even worse, the brutal assault of the conservation laws!

I take it back...I do not want whatever these people are smoking! Time to re-read LORD OF THE FLIES...maybe I'll find a clue there....

I think of Ashville and Zelda Fitzgerald almost at the same time.

Louisiana is odd, sort of southern, sort of caribbean, sort of just, well, odd.

I've posted this before in explaining why I think this case captures continued attention--I think it's not necessarily because of the public's connection to this individual but rather it is how this case relates to our own lives. Parents are concerned about sending their kids on wild vacations. Young people are concerned about cruising in bars. If anything positive can come out of this it will be parents thinking long and hard about sending their kids on basically unchaperoned trips to wild party spots abroad, and young people will think long and hard about hanging out until the wee hours of the morning in seedy bars and the dangerous effects on one's judgment of too much booze.

Well I can certainly say there ain't enough tea in China to make me live in that town again. Six weeks...I was back home. 'Out there' is a mild description.

I for one think that Paulus is more involved than Joran. Joran is pinch inmate for Paulus.

While I haven't ruled Joran's central role out, I tend to agree with you.

Vn your post bears repeating, thanks...

and Toespi it was Scarborough, not Greta as I said before..you are mistaken about the content and the interviewer.(re your post 1047)

I've maintained all along that the ONLY time "that nite" Natalee was seen "at the hotel" is when she and the girls returned briefly between the beach concert and going to C&C's......this was where ahd when she "introduced herself to joran as he was beginning the end-game of the stalk and snatch......she had previously lost some monwy, and someone said he regained 100 of the lost 300 at this time. this was also where he made the comment about it being dead on sunday nites, but the girls went anyhow....the important thing I see here is that there never was a conflicting statement as some try to spin.....nor is there a single statement by anyone on the trip to the effect that Natalee was seen at the hotel after departing C&C's.

Scarborough jammed Byrd with time constraint, and there was NOT time for her to respond fully and honestly....in fact, Scarborough offered "leave it like that" as an option to her in lieu of a full explanation due to the time constraint he had just placed on her response......that is the origin of the nonsense that those who wish to pretend Natalee was seen at the hotel after her encounter at C&C's w/jorab & the Pinps. But it is simply NOT TRUE.

Was it Karen or Carin or whoever the first prosecutor was who made the "cowboy" statement?

Nothing wrong with cowboys...isn't that how we went into Grenada to save some medical students? (I think I'll re-read that history when I finish LORD OF THE FLIES. My recollection is a bit fuzzy...)

Yep but I see it as more general than wild sjpots and unchaperoned trips.

The truth is we all let go of our kids at some point. To chaperone at age 18 is no longer the norm. And bad things happen in the US, on college campuses, on the street. At some point we have to quit locking the doors for them, quit looking up and down the street when taking them out, quit vetting their friends and quit asking them to "call when you get home".

When you let go of a kid it is incredibly difficult and scary. And the process starts in grade school when you put them on the bus what with bullies and pedophile bus drivers and wacky teachers. And it goes on and on, sometimes I think it never ends.

This is a parents deepest fear. And that is the hook.

But you have to let them go, you have to, and sometimes really awful things happen. We had a friend whose kid went off to college, a lovely girl, was murdered in the first week by the super at her apartment building. She did nothing wrong, was a wonderful girl but how was she to know that to open her door to the super was going to result in her death. Sometimes you cannot prevent things.

And you cannot in this day expect your kids to stay home and knit. They party, they travel, they drink, they make new friends. And they get into taxis.

Thanks for your post. I'm just now reading it (didn't see Greta last night) and I'm sick to my stomach. This guy sounds like a credible witness to me, but once again I'm astounded that he came forward to the police and THEY DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

How much longer is it going to take for the media to speak with one voice and say: Aruban Law Enforcement and government officials are CORRUPT? Not negligent, but CORRUPT? Let's start a chorus, please!
