A renegade band of Mexican military deserters, offering $50,000 bounties for the assassination of U.S. law-enforcement officers, has expanded its base of operations into the United States to protect loads of cocaine and marijuana being brought into America by Mexican smugglers, authorities said.

"Why do I have the suspicion that other countries are involved in this?"
What other countries do you think might be involved? If you suspect Muddle Eastern countries like Iran, Syria and others that are known terror hotspots, then why would you object to the military being used to guard us from invasion during a time of war?
I care not if you take me seriously. That's on you, and whatever you think, so be it.
I agree. As a vet I also wonder why we have "peace keeping" forces half way around the world and yet live under the threat of someone walking in with a nuclear bomb. As soon as someone blows up a major city suddenly the border will become a priority and troops on the border won't seem so unpalatable.
I wasn't thinking about Arabs, though that may be the case. I was thinking about South American countries with their drug trade. These criminals have upped the ante, so it has to be more than mere marijuana that they are protecting.
Some of are prepared for that too....and are beginning to expect it considering what Washington is failing to do.
"I care not if you take me seriously. That's on you, and whatever you think, so be it. "
OK then you just make stuff up with no intellect behind it..too bad just thought you were having a bad morning.
The ACLU will do any and every thing that is against the interests of the United States.
Actually, I'm having a pretty decent morning. The Senate voted down more Border Patrol agents, yet you have the gall to say I don't have any "intellect behind it?" As it is set up, the Border Patrol has nowhere near the number of people and means to patrol all the way from Laredo, TX, to San Diego, CA. And I won't even bring up the far larger Canadian border.
I'm done with you.
"Some of are prepared for that too....and are beginning to expect it considering what Washington is failing to do."
Or are beginning to expect it considering what Washington is doing?
The American people expect and demand secure borders.
If we didn't have an illegal immigration problem, the threat of terror still demands we protect our borders.
I agree.
"And I won't even bring up the far larger Canadian border."
Well, you just did. That, combined with your response to me stating that the "other countries" would be South American "drug lords that have upped the ante" shows that you do have concerns about ME countries being behind this. Unless, you think that South American drug lords are routing their drugs around America and then bringing them down through the northern border.
We are under attack, we need the military on the borders now.
For some reason President Bush doesn't think so. Maybe he will read the article above and a light bulb will suddenly go on. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he just hasn't heard about how many of the illegals are OTM's. Maybe he's been so busy saying the same speech over and over again about Iraqi freedom and how we are securing their borders that he just hasn't had the time to deal with the INVASION OF AMERICA.
I'm with you. Posse comitatus is there for a very good reason. I would rather see the border patrols be augmented with "militia" type groups like the minute men. We don;t necessarily need more guns, what we need is more eyes on the ground and a group of quick reaction forces capable of dealing with each situation as it arises. I would give the militia sufficient training so as not to act rashley and so that they could defend themselves, if necessary, until the QRF could get there.
Why? Isn't it important enough?
Yes, it's important enough. But that is not what we were trained to do. =rdb
I'm a Navy vet, from '66-'68, have all the appropriate ribbons, and a couple extra. -page
Good for you. -rdb
That's what the Navy recruiter said. I had a low draft #, so I elected to go Navy RESERVE! I did three WestPac cruises on a tin can.
I may be wrong, but I think defending our own border is why we have a standing Army (Navy, and AF). I see nothing about stationing troops in foreign lands, within our Constitution... -page
So you'd take former Presidents to task for stationing our troops in foreign lands to contain the spread of communism, right?- rdb
Where is their justification? Is it in the Constitution, or any of our founding documents? No, it is found in popular opinion, and IMHO, is a rejection of the Constitution. Maybe you agree with them... Abortion, and homosexualism, is legal, too!
Did I miss something? Where is the mandate for a "border patrol"?-page
Okay. Everybody, let's do away with the Border Patrol. pageonetoo doesn't want it.-rdb
What is wrong with placing our troops on OUR border?
I lived on the base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 1962. I, along with my mother and sister, were evacuated from the base, on Oct 22, aboard the USNS Upshur, arriving in Norfolk when it was already cold and rainy. I knew a lot of the Marines, from my days of teaching sailing at the marina.
I spent many a day on that base, and the border with Cuba was constantly manned with our ARMED troops. Our Cuban maid had to go through a barbed wire runway to enter the base. It is sovereign US Territory. What training are you talking about?
Don't be cute. And I know your style. -rdb
I think you're the cutesy one... and I know your "style" as well!
I said I'm done with you...thanks it is a great gift
sad when one cannot explain or defend such a stupid statement as " the border patrol has not failed"
now I am done with you.
" Whats your answer to increase funding to an Border patrol that has failed and is riddled with corruption??"
They're grossly underfunded and undermanned.
They're restricted from doing their jobs effectively by politicians.
They even likely have a few bad apples that are hindering effective enforcement in some areas.
They are hardly riddled with corruption. That's a pretty disgusting insult to people who put their lives on the line to protect our borders, the vast majority of which a good people working within a broken system.
