Read my lips, "you are with us or you are against us".
The German Luftwaffe is both in El Paso, TX and Holloman, NM. Furthermore Germanys Air Force has a training mission on Sardinia (Italy).
Well mikey, these ingrates have had the U.S. there protecting them and the world from them for 6 decades. I personally am tired of paying taxes to support these folks that don't care to have us there. And you can say this or that about whoever the fact is they don't deserve our support at this time.
I am a little more concerned about the security of the U.S. and don't care if Russia once again kicks the hell out of Germany or all of Europe.
Read my lips: This has nothing to do with the sand-box. The Army needs to change their base structure. It´s common sense that infantry or tank units have no job in Germany. Using this logic, it´s understandable that the Air Force keeps its strategic bases.
Ahhh, much obliged Michael. I knew they were in New Mexico because when I was stationed there it was a common thing. Wasn't aware they were at El Paso as well. Thanks for the clarification!
The central European region no longer requires our force projection from the area of the continent near the Channel. Rather, if we need to deploy and apply force in the air and on the ground it will be in the Black Sea, Causacus area and the regions of the 'stans" of the former USSR to depress the expansionist and hegemonic impulses of Iran and the non-state hostile forces such as we now face in the Middle East.
The balance within Turkey and the delicate, and often tense, relations of the Greek/Turkish tension in the region that serves as the geographic barrier to expansonist plans in the mid-southwest Asian continent also indicates our presence.
We have shrunk our fighting forces to the level that depends upon a forward posted cadre with the ability for swift air and sea lift capabilities. The idea that we can feasibly withdraw within our ocean boundries, like the 'Fortress America' of the isolationists of the 1930s, is incredibly wrong. Repositioning a few forces from Germany is not the same as declaring our world-wide obligations are ended and our vital national self-interests have changed.
I agree.
Well, it wasn´t just Germany that was defended from 1945 till 1991, so be honest: your Army stood guard along with half a million active German soldiers to fight the Reds. It´s fully understandable that the Army withdraws its forces. I wouldn´t understand if the Air Force left my country, but that isn´t going to be the case after all.
Just wanted to remind you that the good people will be hurt and not those you (personally) aim at. The leftists give a sh** about your pullout.
And finally, the US cared about Germanys security for good reasons for six decades. Why should the situation have changed? Fact is, there is no change in the strategic partnership between Germany and the US. The leaving of the Army is not the payback you wish it to be, face it.
For about 2 weeks, on a big computer exercise in '92.
A civilian barber who said he cut Elvis' hair did mine. My brush with greatness...
placemarker
Wish the Army would close its base on the liberal leftist demoncRAT west side of WA state. There are plenty of places to reopen one on the east side.
That's ok. As long as we are drawing down much more in places like Germany. Some bases in the US needed to be closed.
We need to have some bases to operate out of. We can't have all our troops located on ships offshore. Some airbases and such are needed in Germany and other places.
Why is this taking so long???
flush cement down the toilets when you leave
That will be 18,100 people no longer providing a backdoor financial subsidy to Germany. All that $ will now be spent in the states.
Nope, but I was with 3rd amored division at Ayers Kaserne.
Yes, we do need forward deployed forces, but eastern Europe (the new Europe) would be a far better location. Take Poland for example. The Soviets left behind many bases and Poland is really our ally.
Regarding post 58 that is armored not amored!
