Thank you to the GOP members who stood up to the pressure from the Protectionists.
Go Cafta! Go Free Trade! Thank you GOP for standing up and voting 'YEA' to smart economic policy.

Interesting to see that my Representative, Scott Garrett (R-NJ) voted no on this. I was not educated on this topic enough to come down on either side, but considering that Garrett (who I've only disagreed with a handful of times) voted against this combined with certain freepers who supported this, I'm leaning towards concluding that CAFTA is a bad thing.

I have work to do in 2008 with mine. Doolittle voted yes. He is also on the immigration caucus.

Looks like most of the NC delegation voted "nay".
Good.

I'm glad to see that my congresswoman, Sue Kelly, supported this. She's often on the "moderate" side, but at least she tends to support the free market.

Mine voted No but what can I expect. She also wants to ban the boy scouts from federal land because they don't accept homos.

Lets all thank the yea voters for once again putting America and Americans under the thumb of some leftist, globalist orgs like the World Bank and the UN. In my book the Yea voters don't care about the Constitution or our country, just as long as they can line their own pockets. 2006 is going to be a fun year.

Someone posted on another thread, quoting:
"The choice was CAFTA or give Central America to China.
Anybody who doesn't understand that, needs to learn about the in roads China is making in the countries below our border.
They understand long-term strategic thinking and chess."

Did you watch the debate before the vote on CSPAN? Very telling. The concerns over the effects of CAFTA on the American Worker was most often NOT the main subject of the arguments presented by the Repubs who supported CAFTA and likewise the Dems who opposed CAFTA. The concerns were overwhelmingly centered on the effects CAFTA would have on the Central American workers. It was obvious that most of the Dems would have voted for CAFTA if it had provisions that "International Standards Of Labor Practices" would be guaranteed to the Central American workers with the bill. The small number of Repubs who did vote against CAFTA voiced concerns about the effects of the bill on the American worker, along with the transition of authority over trade regulation to a foreign body of un-elected bureaucrats (The WTO), the Constitutionality of it etc... The willingness of some on these forums to lump Conservatives like myself who are against CAFTA in with the left on this issue proved to be absurd because of the statements presented last night by the opposing Dems.
Next step... The FTAA. Mr Bush has stated that he would like to see that passed by the end of 2005. He'll probably get it judging by last nights vote. Pathetic....

My congressman, Baghdad Jim McDermott, voted no. Since he represents the globalist cultural elite here in Seattle, I guess he was reflecting the views of his constituents. ;-)
