It's never to early to have a beer.

I kind'a think of it like this.

It's liquid bread - It's got grain, water, yeast and it ferments. And we all know how bread is a prime constituent of breakfast.

Thanks for all your warm responses.

I feel confident in the knowledge that I and my comrads in arms, whereever they may be, are thought about and supported by the wonderful folks here at FR.

C-Rats had their advantages. I have fond memories of Beanie-weenies and Green-eggs-n-ham.

But MREs have greater variety and are pretty tasty these days.

No, No Cigarettes - we get tabasco instead. Mmmmmmmmmmm

When I was in the Army in Italy in 1973, I went to the messhall for breakfast one morning and was sitting by the front door..eating Eggs and sausages..when a small stray dog
walked into the front door and stood by my table looking up at me, I felt sorry for him and tossed a sausage down at his feet, he dipped his head down and sniffed at it, looked up at me and turned and walked out!

I still laugh at that !!

And thank you for your service as well sir. There is a certain brotherhood with those who have served in our armed forces, (and they're spouses), reguardless of the service they chose, or when they served, or the rank they obtained, or the duty they pulled and got "stuck with" at one time or another. IMO we're all "brothers under the skin". I like civilians and all that, but they just don't get it sometimes. A "lack of training" if you will. ;)

agree...it is a bond as old as the warrior spirit itself- an essence that can never be taken away, and that lives beyond it's time...all of us, all of the good men and women who have served this nation, "shoulder to shoulder, backs against the wall" understand the meaning of "This we'll defend". Roaddog, take care, and Never Forget-
I leave you with a piece I did some time ago, that I like to dust off every now and then when it seems appropriate...

Evening in Arlington
(Last line from Taps)

as the last note waifs away,
and the wind dies down,
there is one solemn moment,
suspended…

and our grief for those gone
becomes a brush
that we pass across our opaque pain,
so we may see them once more,
before they fade forever into the evening mist…

before some sound stirs this field to flight-
still we might remember-
“as we go, this we know, God is near…”

"Yes, I DO like MREs - Really! "

Me, too. If things in MREs haven't changed in 20 years...wait, what am I saying, they PACKED your MREs twenty years ago...mix the dehydrated strawberries with the coffee creamer then add water...it is like strawberries and cream from the best five star restaurant in the area.

Also, I was told the grease in the ham can can also be used as a fuel for a fire or to grease your gear. I did light it on fire as a test, but I never greased my rifle with it in case it caused jams.

I pray you get the equipment and leadership you need to do the job. When you come back, you will receive a hero's welcome, from the Miller family, at the least.
