Tom Cruise Vs. Mel Gibson - (Follywood loves Scientology and Islam; they get special treatment!)
A.I.M.ORG ^ | JULY 26, 2005 | CLIFF KINCAID

We have commented on actor Tom Cruise using the media to preach the virtues of Scientology and the evils of psychiatry. He gave interviews about his new film, "War of the Worlds," as long as he was permitted to talk about his religion.

But Scientology not only has a base in Hollywood, it has enjoyed powerful friends in Washington. For years, Scientology fought a battle with the IRS because the government would not recognize its claim to be a religion. The IRS finally granted Scientology its desired status under President Bill Clinton, the recipient of massive donations from Hollywood.

Now it gets more interesting: Clinton helped the Church of Scientology in return for John Travolta, a member of Scientology, softening up his portrayal of the Clinton character in Primary Colors! Clinton and Travolta cut a deal. Travolta agreed to go easy on Clinton in the movie Primary Colors and Clinton reportedly agreed to use his influence to get the German government to leave Scientology alone.

Now why does Scientology get such a good press? One ex-Scientologist told me, "The reason the press treats them better than Christians is because Scientology will sue at the drop of a pejorative and they don't care if they lose the suit. They do it to punish detractors with the hassle of going through a lawsuit. The media knows this. Christians don't sue, so they are fair game."

Another religion that enjoys cordial relations with Hollywood is Islam.

In the movie version of Tom Clancy's book, The Sum of All Fears, the Islamic terrorists were transformed into European neo-Nazis.

We aren't hearing much from dingbats Tom and Katie these days now that their movies have opened. Does this mean Katie can have her pre-Scientology life back now?

I would be ashamed to admit in public I followed a joke of a religion created by a hack of a science fiction writer.

I don't know if Scientology gets a free ride. It seems like everyone was making fun of Tom (and his religion). Then again I don't watch that much TV.
I like Mel but both him and Tom seem really twitchy in recent interviews.
Its strange that Hollywood would go easy on Scientologist seeing as the whole city goes to shrinks on a daily basis. Then again they are pro-Islam which probably doesn't care for their movies. (though I heard Osama is a huge Lindsay Lohan fan)

Scientology is not much different than Christian Science only without the Christ. What they call a "conscience" we call the voice of God speaking to us. I don't feel threatened by Scientology. I wouldn't dump my religion for it. It's new...but not that much different.
What bothers me is how the media gives it so much attention yet they condemn Christianity.

I watched that particular season of 24, and I was surprised at how minimal the watering down of it was. There was some (the imam in the mosque Bauer went to was all nice and preaching 'Allah forbids the killing of innocents' and such) but these badguys were definitely islamic terorrists.

And, of course, Bauer had to whip their rear ends. It was pretty cool.

Come to think of it, L. Ron Hubbard and the Perverted Hillbilly Sink Emperor have alot in common. Maybe Bill should have skipped the political cult of personality thing and just started his own religion: Internology.

The first exam is free.

PS: Never tell a Christian Scientist what I said. I did that once and they were offended. :)

When is somebody going to come out with a kick ass jingoistic action movie like they had in the 80s.

I heard Stallone was working on Rambo IV which of course has Rambo fighting neo-nazi militia-types and working to save the environment. Give me a break.

Scientology also doesn't seem to be a destructive or violent religion. I don't agree with its "tenets", but it's certainly a far more neighborly and peaceful religion than, say, Islam or Socialism (and if you don't think Socialism isn't a religion in its own right, I have some beachfront property in Kansas I'd like to sell you.)

The only person a Scientologist is likely to harm in the course of practicing their religious is themself.

Tom Cruise hasn't caught 1/10 over scientology what Gibson caught because of his Christianity. Scientology is definitely more popular than Christianity, and there are several reasons why.

Popularity of various religions has nothing to do with how strict they are. It has to do with guilt. You can be a scientologist, and not feel bad about your sins and your wrongs. You can be a muslim and haul off and kill people you don't like and get approval for it.

Christianity is unpopular because it requires you to admit that you have problems, that you do evil things in your life you can't deal with. It requires you to humble yourself and admit wrongdoing.

That kind of truth hurts, and people will do or say or believe anything, anything, to avoid it.

This article is nonsense. Cruise has been bashed unrelentingly by Hollywood and the MSM for daring to criticize psychiatry.

I am not so sure it's that they love Scientology and Islam as much as they hate Christianity.

All the more reason to explain the facts of life to them. I don't want people to hurt themselves.

"The only person a Scientologist is likely to harm in the course of practicing their religious is themself."

Actually scientology could eventually lead some of its followers to Christianity.
