Senate Intelligence Committee : Report On The U.S. Intelligence Communitys Prewar Intelligence Assessments On Iraq Conclusion 13. The report on the former ambassadors trip to Niger, disseminated in March 2002, did not change any analysts assessments of the Iraq-Niger uranium deal. For most analysts, the information in the report lent more credibility to the original Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) reports on the uranium deal, but the State Department Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR) analysts believed that the report supported their assessment that Niger was unlikely to be willing or able to sell uranium to Iraq.

Granted that Mr Wilson was correct in saying that the document he saw was in fact a forgery. But , to push the charge that the document he reffered to was the basis for us going to war , was not only a lie but an act of treason. Mr Wilson himself has never said that iraq never sought uranium from niger, only that they were unsuccessfull in there request. Mr Wilson was sent only to verify "iraq sought yellow cake uranium from niger" and Mr. Wilson report did confirm as much(According to Mr Wilson himself). The Bush Administration has never claimed that iraq purchased yellowcake uranium, only that Iraq sought it from niger. So when Mr Wilson intentionally and publicly claimed that this President decieved congress by using fake documents to justify invading iraq "he absolutely lied" .... And that in my opinion is Treason.
Cripes! :-(
Wilson?
Maybe he needs to do the perp walk now!
Jeesh .. State
Do you think it could be Judith Miller?
As I recall those earlier reports from Italy (and another European country) were sourced primarily to humint, not to documents, much less the forgeries.
We informed the UN that we 'had reservations' about the documents when we handed them over to the IAEA.
What is the source of the info you posted? It either contradicts other reports or fills in her later timeline we were wondering about on another thread.
Wilson's second wife, Jacqueline, was FRENCH! From the infamous Vanity Fair profile of the Wilsons:
...in Burundi, Wilson met his second wife, then the cultural counselor at the French Embassy there. That was approximately 1986. Wilson was married to her for 12 years.
I think she is/was a French intelligence agent and I think she compromised Wilson (perhaps he was a willing conspirator).
Was it just a coincidence when Wilson met Plame at that Washington cocktail party? According to Vanity Fair, he and Jacqueline spent a year in Washington in the mid-80's when he worked for Gore and Foley. They then moved back to Africa and the article goes on with his career...but I haven't read anywhere what SHE did in the intervening years.
Where did all Wilson's money come from? As tells Vanity Fair that, as recently as 1998, he "decided to retire and go into the private sector because 'we wanted to have kids, and felt that it had become very difficult to live off two government salaries.'" So, up till '98 money was tight. Then all of a sudden he's living in an expensive house with a view of the capital, driving around in his expensive convertible, sporting expensive watches....etc. But, as far as I know, no one has ever asked him about the source of his newfound fortune. Isn't it common for the CIA to be curious about sudden good fortune where their agents' families are concerned?
Is it a coincidence that Wilson was married to a (likely) French operative for 12 years, gets sent to an African country with significant French control, and then gets involved in a controversy over alleged FRENCH forgeries?
Bottom line: I think Wilson is a spy for the French. That could explain where his wealth came from. I haven't decided whether I think Valerie is a willing participant or a dupe. I do hope Fitzpatrick is looking into this angle.
Does anyone know if Wilson has even testified before the grand jury?
USA: African Governments Spend Millions on Lobbying
by Jim Lobe, Inter Press Service
May 20th, 2001
WASHINGTON -- African governments are paying millions of dollars to lobbyists in hopes of influencing Washington's policy, according to an examination of US government files.

Gabon has also maintained a three-year-old relationship with Jacqueline Wilson, the ex-spouse of a senior US diplomat. According to her filings, Wilson receives tens of thousands of dollars for special projects and reports to President Omar Bongo's daughter, Pascaline Mferri Bongo.
In her latest filing, Wilson reported that she was paid 60,000 dollars between August and November 2000 to ''support action of president of Gabon to fight AIDS pandemic (and) develop a strategy.'' As to work performed, she reported sending ''letters to the office of National AIDS policy at the White House.''

From everyone that I have been asking that question to the answer has been no. I hope that means that Joe Wilson is a target of the investigation!
What a day that would be: Fitzgerald indicts Wilson as a foreign agent using his wife's CIA involvement to spy on the US and undermine with US foreign policy.
Sigh. In my dreams. I'm not encouraged by the reported make up of the grand jury...mostly African American women from D.C. I hope I'm wrong, but my impression has been that their constituency is more likely to believe that Bush was in on the 9/11 attacks.
Oh, great! There went any indicements on Democrats! It's all Karl Rove's fault. /sarcasm
Jan/Feb 21 2002 Wilson went to Niger and said he found nothing.
Oct 2002 Italians received forged documents.....they forwarded copies to the US embassy in Rome.
Looks like about 8mths after Wilson did his thing to me?
Don't know how accurate these guys are but somebody has done a shat load of work trying to time line.

He was talking about documents he couldn't have had access to.
Perhaps he saw them during the Senate hearings or Jane Bond showed them to him?...Somebody showed secret documents to him?
What the Senate Committee Repubs. had to say about Wilson and the docs.
"Conclusion: Rather than speaking publicly about his actual experiences during his inquiry of the Niger issue, ***the former ambassador seems to have included information he learned from press accounts*** and from his beliefs about how the Intelligence Community would have or should have handled the information he provided.

Great catch!
Wilson later said he was hoping to start a gold business out of Niger. That does not pass the smell test to me. I think that was a big old fat cover story. He would not have made any money in a startup gold business. I think he was working with uranium smugglers and got himself assigned to the 2002 trip by using his wife, in order to cover his own ass and those of his friends when his wife told him the CIA was aggressively looking into Iraqi attempts to buy uranium. He needed to find out exactly what the government knew and might have told other intelligence gatherers, and whether any of it could lead back to him; and he needed to tell his "business associates" to shred everything and get the hell out of Dodge. That's why he told everyone he just sat around the pool drinking mint tea, why he did not deliver a written report to the CIA, and why he never said anything about the trip to anyone else until he signed up with the Kerry campaign.
I think Joe Wilson used his connections in Africa to start a lucrative illicit business, and used his wife to enable him to cover it up. He had no intention of talking about it until he signed on with the Kerry campaign and was convinced he could use the story against the Bush administration, which he didn't like anyway because he had worked for Al Gore and the Clinton White House (ahem, his boss was Sandy Berger.) I think he was reluctant because he did not want his wife involved or named. I think the Kerry campaign convinced him it could keep her out of it. But none of them knew about the State Department memo, nor did they realilze the extent of the feud between State and CIA. I think State leaked the info about Plame to Bob Novak in order to embarrass the CIA, then Wilson went ballistic. The Kerry campaign then concocted the story that the White House was behind the "leak" and spread it around to its friends in the MSM, especially Mr. Mandy Grunwald. The CIA asked for the investigation because it suspected State was the source of the leak to Novak. I think Joe Wilson was initially clueless about all of it, but he has been enjoying his 15 minutes of fame and so he continues to go along with the Democrat version of events. And he knows that as long as the focus is on the White House and a criminal investigation, nobody is going to start asking what the hell he was doing in business in Niger and where all of his money came from.
Your theory sounds plausible. Like you, I think the old rhubarb "Follow the money" would be well applied in Mr. Wilson's case. Hopefully Mr. Fitzgerald has a curious disposition.
I'll keep your points in mind, but I still think 12 years married to a supposedly obscure French consulate worker...well, it goads my curiosity. I wish we knew more about her.
That was shortly after Powell submitted his report to the U.N. and the IAEA Chief (Alberdai sp?) immediately discredited Powell.s report by pointing at the KNOWN forged document. I believe this was because WE told the Brits that we had a MOLE in our Intelligence Community and we cat off all communications
